I thought the consensus on Wikipedia is that English Wikipedia uses English. "ß" is not English, but this keeps getting "corrected". --Tysto (talk) 05:54, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That depends on the usage in English sources. If the "ss" spelling is dominant, the English Wikipedia uses that, too; see Franz Josef Strauss or Adolf Strauss. If not, we use "ß". -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 10:43, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's impossible for English sources to use "ß" because "ß" is not in the English language, so any source that uses it is merely quoting German. My understanding is that since "ß" is not used in Swiss German, even a Swiss text IN GERMAN would use "ss".
