Canoe Lake (Nipissing District, Ontario)Canoe Lake, OntarioCanoe Lake, Ontario is a disambiguation but this is the only article linked from there (the rest are redlinks). Since disambiguations are for article navigation (not lists of information), that page as a dab is useless. As such, this page (Canoe Lake (Nipissing District, Ontario)) should be moved there. ---M.Nelson (talk) 04:19, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Leaving aside the comma debate, I'm pretty sure redlinks are perfectly legit on dabs. Just because it is the only Canoe Lake with an article now doesn't mean it will always be. The Tom (talk) 20:36, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. In a Google search for Canoe Lake, Ontario you will get 18 hits to 18 different Canoe Lakes in Ontario. Having Nipissing District will help in finding the right lake. In fact there seemed to be 2 lakes with the name Canoe Lake in the Nipissing District. Buzzzsherman (talk) 21:25, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
List of communities in Ontario doesn't list Canoe Lake as a community, it's only on the DAB page...is there a community called canoe lake?--kelapstick (talk) 22:11, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the source of the DAB page here and this list of abbreviations from the Ontario Government, it looks like Canoe Lake, Ontario is a "disbursed rural community" in Nipissing District, which I (strictly guessing here) think refers to the cottages on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Park (the subject of this page). Not sure if a group of cottages on a lake would have a page or not, but I am sticking with oppose.--kelapstick (talk) 22:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reply: From WP:DAB, "When there is a well-known primary topic for an ambiguous term, name or phrase, much more used than any other topic covered in Wikipedia to which the same word(s) may also refer, then that term or phrase should either be used for the title of the article on that topic or redirect to that article." Even though there are a number of other Canoe Lakes, Canoe Lake (Nipissing District, Ontario) is undisputably the primary topic (as none of the others are covered in Wikipedia). -M.Nelson (talk) 01:00, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Another reply: WP:DAB elsewhere states that disambiguation pages are "non-article pages that refer readers to other Wikipedia articles"; since there is only one Wikipedia article for readers to be referred to, this disambiguation page is useless. However, since there are different interpretations of disambiguation pages here, I posted a note at WP:WikiProject Disambiguation (note here) linking here. -M.Nelson (talk) 01:00, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks M.nelson. I've taken the liberty of creating the new Canoe Lake (Ontario) page, and of marking the item at WP:WikiProject Disambiguation (note is here) resolved. Would you like to try creating the new Canoe Lake, Ontario page? If I can be so bold as to recommend the Template:Geobox (see also the Types and Legend sub-pages) if you have not already had a chance to use it. --papageno (talk) 01:55, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question should we close this discussion early, as the nominator has changed his stance on the move, all related pages now follow WP:CANSTYLE formats (with the exception of Canoe Lake, Ontario which currently redirects to the list of lakes, which is probably appropriate as there may or may not be an article written about the community), and there is no support for the move proposal as it was written now?--kelapstick (talk) 18:53, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no opposition to closing the discussion presently. Is it legit to close early since consensus (for no move) has been reached, or should the discussion be left to time-out at 7 days? -M.Nelson (talk) 23:51, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
