This article seems full of things that are pretty much wrong. What's the basis for the claim that the first Marquess of Winchester was ever viewed as the chief minister? I've always seen Cecil, as Secretary of State, portrayed as chief minister for virtually Elizabeth's entire reign, and usually I've never seen him called Mary's chief minister either. There's lots of other stuff that seems dubious. Charles Bigham actually wrote a book called The Chief Ministers of England, 920-1720 in the 1920s - I'm not sure anyone else has taken on the topic. I'd say that we list all the people Bigham lists, and only add other people if we can find a source that actually calls them a chief minister. I can't find the Bigham book online, but I know there's a copy I have access to, so I could do that. john k (talk) 01:11, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a pretty good idea, John K. I have edited the article frequently as late, and it would be great if you could get access to a copy of that book.--Nevéselbert 20:57, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for mentioning this book. It's now available on google books for free, and I have made some revisions to the article using this book. In particular, I rewrote the lede to give a better overview of how the position changed over time. Ltwin (talk) 03:09, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
