Article title

[edit]

The title of this article is grammatically incorrect, it should be "Outdoor cooking", for the current words to be correct it would be "Cooking outdoors". If someone objects, please let me know.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 23:41, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I would like this back at Campfire cooking. Outdoor cooking is too broad. Every schlub who throws a burger on his patio grill will now be able to write odes to his favorite bbq sauce under the current title. We already have articles on backpacker's portable stove and for Grill (cooking) (and grilling) and barbeque. We don't need to open this up to those subjects as well. We do need a campfire cooking article. Rmhermen 16:44, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the rationale given for the current name change from "Campfire cooking" to "Outdoors cooking" --> Haikupoet (moved Campfire cooking to Outdoors cooking: Broader title allows broader focus to article) <-- Maybe we need a separate Campfire cooking article that focuses only on campfire cooking, and leave this one as "Outdoors cooking" or as mentioned above "Outdoor cooking". "Cooking outdoors" sounds more like a name for a Wikibook, than a Wikipedia article. - Bevo 18:55, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I stand by my reasoning that a broader title was needed, but I don't object to moving it to outdoor cooking (which is currently a redirect to this article) and possibly breaking out campfire cooking if necessary (I don't really think it is though). Essentially the focus of the article is cooking in a recreational outdoors setting such as camping, and campfire cooking was, I thought, too narrow a title to cover the subject. (I do agree that whatever the title of the article should be, it should exclude anything commonly referred to as a barbecue.) Haikupoet 22:38, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Outdoor cooking is a broad spectrum, which one article should exist with this title. This should include "summaries" of larger articles such as "campfire cooking", "Outdoor grilling", and other such topics (I can't think of any off the top of my head right now. My only objection was the improper grammar. This would be much in the same vein as the Food article. As a detailed article on Food would be gigantic, small summaries are taken of larger topics which if the reader desires to read further can link to the main topic header.--Christopher Tanner, CCC 23:58, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the article to the new name of "Outdoor cooking". - Bevo 13:50, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

Does anyone else think Backwoods cooking should be merged into this article? Meticulo (talk) 23:07, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I do. I haven't the first notion as to how "backwoods" differs from "outdoors" with respect to cuisine. It's clear from other talk that nobody wants this article to be about grills and barbq; so we are not talking about cooking in the garden, right?

Also, I think this article is way too long; it currently runs to 24,000 chars, as compared with "Cooking", which is 35,000 chars. That is absurd, in view of the fact that Outdoor cooking is exactly the same as normal cooking, except that you have to do it outdoors. It's really hard to make an article about cooking outdoors interesting - you have to go on about how to light fires, what to use as fuel, how to make scratch stoves and ovens - otherwise it's just another article about cooking.

Okay, merge done, along with a redirection from the source article. (It's my first merge, so would probably benefit from checking by an experienced editor.) Original text and citations left largely untouched. I also added extra links to the 'See also' section. Meticulo (talk) 09:48, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
