Historical Inconsistency[edit]
"Built by William the Conqueror, the castle dates to the 11th century..." How could the castle only date back to the 11th Century when Edward the Martyr was assassinated there in 978? That would mean the castle was already there in the 10th Century. Was there another castle there before? If so, the article needs to be edited to reflect this. - My sources state that the castle is indeed Norman in origin, and when Edward the Martyr was assassinated here, there was only a hunting lodge - possibly a fortified one, but not the castle that we see the remains of today. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 19:09, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
