GA Review[edit]

Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch

Hi, I'll be reviewing this article. The rules for GA reviews are stated at Good Article criteria. I've never before done a review but I imagine I'll be doing to review in the order: coverage; structure; detailed walk-through of sections (refs, prose, other details); images (after the text content is stable); lead (ditto). Feel free to respond to my comments under each one, and please sign each response, so that it's clear who said what.

When an issue is resolved, I'll mark it with  Done. If I think an issue remains unresolved after responses / changes by the editor(s), I'll mark it  Not done. Occasionally I decide one of my comments is off-target, and strike it out -- Aaroncrick (talk) 10:40, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage[edit]

  • Green tickY No obvious gaps, although I may find something later. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:43, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Check for disambiguation and other dubious wikilinks[edit]

  •  Done two links aren't working. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:47, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Hello, Aaron. Reference [1] was a webpage, which was moved and updated with new information. I've replaced the link, and checked through the article for verifiability. Working on the other reference now. GW(talk) 11:22, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Reference [47] was a webpage, which was moved. I've replaced the link. GW(talk) 11:26, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Green tickY Dab links all fine. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:47, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiability[edit]

Without even looking closely several claims are unsupported.

  • In "Structures and Facilities"
    • "It is an all-seater arena with a seating capacity of 25,135. The stands are rectangular and both the northern and southern stands have supporting steel girders suspended from beneath the roof. The four stands are of approximately the same height, however the stadium is not totally enclosed, leaving four exposed corners which currently act as an exit for supporters with disabilities." No ref Aaroncrick (talk) 11:04, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Added new reference for this claim, except the disabled part, for which I can't find a source. GW(talk) 13:55, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • "Occasionally, during games which attract low away support, the North Stand is closed altogether, and the away fans who attend are put into an alternative stand." No ref Aaroncrick (talk) 11:04, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • I know this happens from experience, but I accept there's no reference for this. Claim removed. GW(talk) 12:05, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
        • Strike that, I found one. GW(talk) 12:36, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • " Like most modern stadia, the ground has irrigation, and an under-heating system to resist icy weather." No ref Aaroncrick (talk) 11:04, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Reference [1] covers this claim. GW(talk) 11:55, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Attendances"
    • "Wigan Athletic's success has improved considerably since their move to the stadium from Springfield Park in 1999. Since 2000, Wigan Athletic have climbed up three divisions and currently play in the FA Premier League." No ref Aaroncrick (talk) 11:19, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Added new reference for this claim. GW(talk) 13:49, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • The same season saw the highest ever attendance at the stadium, when Manchester United F.C. played on the final day of the season. No ref Aaroncrick (talk) 11:09, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Added reference for attendance. GW(talk) 13:28, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Surroundings"
    • "Robin Park Sports Centre is situated directly opposite the Stadium and Arena." No ref Aaroncrick (talk) 11:09, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Found a new reference for this; also, referenced other claims which had no ref GW(talk) 12:19, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • "The main road serving the complex is the A49, running west-bound 750 metres (820 yd) south of the stadium. Both of Wigan's train stations, Wigan Wallgate and Wigan North Western lie 1.3–1.6 kilometres (0.8–1.0 mi) east of the stadium." No ref Aaroncrick (talk) 11:09, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Added three new references for this claim. GW(talk) 12:30, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

Referencing Format[edit]

Done * Referencing needs to be changed to 'Notes' and the books need to be put into 'References'. Check out York Park to see what I mean. Also once you've done that the book ref in the article should be made shorter, as the would have already been listed in full in 'References'. Use this format <ref name="Ponting22">Richardson (2002), p. 22.</ref> Aaroncrick (talk) 11:19, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Look fine. Aaroncrick (talk) 23:39, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Other Comments[edit]

  • Is the lead going to referenced or not? As the last two paragraphs don't have refs. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:51, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Lead has been fully referenced. GW(talk) 13:17, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • All seasons need to have an endash (–) no just a dash. Such as 2006–07, not 2006-07. Aaroncrick (talk) 23:50, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Done, not just for seasons, but any range I found in the article. Also, note another major change to the Wigan Warriors section. Their last home game of the season was on Friday, if you want to check refs and stuff. GW(talk) 10:07, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. Will be passing the article. Well done. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:11, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
