The result of the proposal was I moved pages as listed below Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:18, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#David Wilson. The moves would be to sort out the current mess of various footballing David Wilsons. Afterwards, a disambiguation page would be set up at David Wilson (footballer) so that the articles could be inter-linked Pretty Green (talk) 09:26, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I moved this back to (Scottish footballer) because I didn't think it should have been moved while this discussion was only an hour old. Please accept my apologies if I was mistaken.
Sourced information as to the birth year (approximate) of this Wilson is now available, so I'd suggest he might be better at David Wilson (footballer born 1908), as (English footballer) doesn't distinguish him from the other English David Wilson, currently at David Wilson (footballer born 1969).
I don't see a need to move Dave Wilson (footballer), who is already dabbed from the others by first name, or to create an additional level of dab page. A hatnote pointing to the existing David Wilson disambiguation page would be enough to help the reader if they come to the wrong place. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:07, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I've withdrawn my objection accordingly. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:34, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Changed St Johnstone into Stranraer (source Emms-Wells) The addition of St. Johnstone was an act of vandalism in my opinion Cattivi (talk) 16:44, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

David Wilson (English footballer, played for Hamilton Academical and Stranraer)David Wilson (footballer born c. 1908)

  • Request made to my talk page, copied here: Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:07, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • More people likely distinguish him by which clubs he played for, than by when he was born? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:07, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Standard naming convention at WP:FOOTY is to disamb by birth year, in cases when nationality won't work. There are a very few awkward cases, where there are several players of the same name/era/sometimes even club, when the conventional approach can't be used, but this doesn't really need to be one of them. If a reader is looking specifically for the David Wilson who played for Hamilton in the 1930s via the dropdown menu, they'd be just as able to distinguish him from the other one by approx date of birth, i.e. long ago as opposed to relatively recent, as they would by club. And anyone looking via the dab page will find him by his description whatever the page is called. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:28, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Players have generally been disambiguated by birthyear and nationality where possible; if we now have a set year for this David Wilson then this standard should probably be followed. --Pretty Green (talk) 16:50, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

David Wilson (footballer, born c. 1908)David Wilson (footballer, born 1908) – The article provides an exact date of birth, with a citation (although it's an offline citation, so not easy to verify). This is the only use of "footballer, born c." in an article title. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:14, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Death reference also has the DOB so I've copied it. But it's a primary source so if not considered suitable, OK. Crowsus (talk) 10:37, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
