Tom4216697 (talk) 01:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)This is the first thing I've made on wiki so any sort of comment would be appreciated! Some of the sections need a fair bit of work so feel free to edit away![reply]

It seems very well constructed and you cited your sources. nice job! If you imported any images make sure the aren't copyrighted because they are REALLY strict about that.JJ Cool D 01:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

130.56.65.24 (talk) 02:37, 28 October 2008 (UTC)What is the etiquette for taking images from other articles? (such as the C02 graph from the 'Global Warming' page for example?[reply]

Coral reefs

[edit]

For example coral reefs -which are biodiversity hotspots- will be lost in 20 to 40 years if global warming continues at the current trend.[1]

This could be added to article ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.246.163.201 (talk) 12:05, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If coral reefs were going to be added, someone would have to do a major overhaul of the article and change it to 'effect of climate change on biodiversity'. Coral reefs aren't really that plant based. But I agree, broadening the scope of the article might be good, as long as its a more general broadening rather than just adding coral reefs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.56.71.50 (talk) 23:55, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion about title and scope

[edit]

Please see a discussion about related articles, scope and a possible merger here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Effects_of_climate_change_on_ecosystems#Plans_for_future_changes? EMsmile (talk) 09:02, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again User:InformationToKnowledge: where do we stand with this now? Over on the other talk page you had written "And Decline in plant biodiversity would be using whatever parts of Effects of climate change on plant biodiversity are still relevant as the basis for much of it, while combining it with information on non-climate drivers." What's the plan with this article now? Move which parts to where? EMsmile (talk) 13:08, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've taken out a lot of superfluous, digressing stuff now which had been mainly added by students over the years. Of the content that remains, some could probably be moved to effects of climate change on biomes? And some to biodiversity loss? I guess the message is that climate change can lead to changes in biodiversity and to some loss (although things like habitat destruction probably have the bigger impacts on biodiversity loss). So in the end, do we still need this as a stand-alone article or can it be deleted? EMsmile (talk) 13:17, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there are most definitely estimates which show that a concerning number of plant species may be lost due to climate change - you just have to consult the appropriate section in extinction risk from climate change, or even the climate change section in flowering plant (a top-level article which I helped bring up to GA, and that included ensuring it represented the role of climate change properly.) Yes, other factors are still likely to lead to greater impacts, which is why my plan is still basically the same as for climate change and birds - that is, to rename this article to a more broad Decline in plant biodiversity to match all the other "Decline in" articles we now have, and then link/excerpt them all across biodiversity loss and extinction risk articles, as well as top-level articles on their subject (i.e. Plant).
Again, though, I'll come back to this article (currently at 47 daily views - many of which I believe are coming from the link at flowering plant article) once the glaring issues in more visible articles had been addressed. InformationToKnowledge (talk) 19:18, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
