personal life

[edit]

Is it true he has a Korean mom, Russian father? Can we get a bio of his early life in Kazakhstan, siblings, etc? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.102.212.28 (talk) 21:18, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

90% of opponents knocked out, Geale the latest victim. 94.253.245.167 (talk) 03:13, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, his mom is Korean. Murray is next up, we'll see what happens. Kymako (talk) 06:57, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't we add WBC Interim title to the head of article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.34.204.94 (talk) 14:07, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

The intro describes him as a 'Kazakh' boxer. Kazakh, in my understanding, is an ethnicity, not a nationality. In any case, he is not of this ethnicity, not having Kazakh parents. For the nationality, the term is 'Kazakhstani'. I would have thought this would be more appropriate than the current 'Kazakh'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.91.253.93 (talk) 08:01, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ranking

[edit]

Boxrec currently has GGG at #4 pound for pound fighter. [1] Garethtwalsh (talk) 18:12, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Undisputed champion

[edit]

Golovkin is now the undisputed middleweight champion because he is the title holder of the three most widely recognized organizations. The WBO title in this case does not have a claim against the undisputed status of the 3 titles of the champion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.89.162.251 (talk) 18:08, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong. These days, all four are required for undisputed status. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 18:13, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Case in point, Wladimir Klitschko held three of the four, but was not considered undisputed – [2]. Sergey Kovalev also holds three of four, but is only a unified champion. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 18:17, 20 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IBO not on the line for GGG vs. Jacobs

[edit]

One of the links on the article state only WBC, WBA and IBF on the line. BoxRec also hasn't included the IBO title.--Mahussain06 (talk) 12:24, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 Done—IBO removed for now. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 18:35, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Change the "MD" in the result of Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez to "SD". That is the proper score. 2601:347:C300:3800:609F:F02D:BDCE:852 (talk) 04:21, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WBA Regular belt

[edit]

The title defense count of Gennady Golovkin should not be as high as it is on Wikipedia, because it is counting the WBA regular belt. The WBA regular belt has not been a major world title since the creation of the WBA super belt. My proof for this is that Oleksandr Usyk is currently the undisputed Crusierweight champion of the world, yet Beibut Shumenov is the WBA regular champion. If this belt is a major world title, then that would be a dispute for who the cruiserweight champion is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CaPslOcksBroKEn (talkcontribs) 16:55, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Quality of the opposition

[edit]

Quality of the opposition since winning the championship has been questioned frequently here and there, so it would be quite appropriately to have a brief but context-related breakdown on this subject. It might appear inconsistent with every other page related to boxing, but not so many boxers held: 1) world championship; 2) unified championship; 3) one of the longest streak of consecutive title defenses; 4) record-breaking streak of consecutive knockout wins, while defending the crown. Readers should be free to judge on the quality of the opposition, when presented with the all-inclusive picture as the highly authoritative boxing observers have seen it. When it is said that G has fought bums, then some spotlight should be shed on the tale of the tape. 93.74.129.41 (talk) 08:50, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
