Move to SS Iris II?

[edit]

I don't think this ship was ever commissioned, which means she's not "HMS". Colledge (Colledge, J. J.; Warlow, Ben (2006) [1969]. Ships of the Royal Navy: The Complete Record of all Fighting Ships of the Royal Navy (Rev. ed.). London: Chatham Publishing. ISBN 978-1-86176-281-8.) doesn't list her, and the other ship in the raid is listed under SS Royal Daffodil, despite making an unverified claim that she became "HMS Daffodil". She's not listed in the Ship Index page, HMS Iris. A quick Google search reveals only a forum entry and a by-line in an artcle on Australian sailors at Zeebrugge (oh, and all the wikipedia mirrors, obviously). Unless there exists an authoritative source stating that she was commissioned, then I propose to move this page to SS Iris II, or something similar. A redirect from HMS Iris II will sweep up all those who assume that a ship somehow becomes HMS by virtue of being requisitioned. Shem (talk) 11:18, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Try this from the London Gazette HMS Iris II Kernel Saunters (talk) 12:07, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That seems pretty fair; even if she wasn't actually commissioned, the London Gazette treated her as if she were, and that's good enough for me. Thanks. Shem (talk) 13:18, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lieutenant Sillitoe's grave from 1918 states specifically that he died on "HMS Iris" if that's any help? See the picture of his grave on Wikimedia Commons :-) Kbaughan1 (talk) 14:56, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
