Notability

[edit]

Do you have any reliable, secondary source coverage of the topic itself—"indigenous video games" as a concept? And might it be better expressed as "indigenous people in the video game industry" or something of the like if "indigenous video games" isn't an established phrase? czar 14:22, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think the cross-section of "indigenous people" and "video games" is notable enough to support an article, judging by the sources. Support move to "Indigenous people and video games", as discussed at WT:VG. Axem Titanium (talk) 14:59, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
But outside of the Americas and Oceania, "indigenous" is a very vaguely defined and politically loaded term that a lot of people don't agree with. Maybe split it to "Indigenous people of the Americas and video games" and "Indigenous people of Oceania and video games". Sheila1988 (talk) 20:09, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Please keep in mind that blogs, linkedin, facebook, etc. are not valid sources for wikipedia (see WP:RS) and edit the article accoringly (find better sources or replace bad refs with {{citation needed}} tag. Staszek Lem (talk) 22:06, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the references need to be updated. There are links in the references that are dead links. CollaborativeLearner (talk) 16:16, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of the lists

[edit]

Dnakmigziwnan, I disagree with you re-adding the content I removed. While it's certainly possible that these are notable people, none of them have a Wikipedia article, which is usually the criterion for inclusion in lists. Further, none of them were sourced to any reliable source to suggest their notability - all of the links and references were to the games' or game designers' websites, store pages, etc., and the page was turning into a place for anyone indigenous or with a game involving indigenous people to promote themselves. You also reverted my removal of external links with the edit summary "academic resources" - video game company websites are not academic resources. Please reconsider your reverts. creffett (talk) 14:21, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it comes across as promotional and that it should not be in the article in its present form. El_C 15:01, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have revised the "Games where Indigenous people represent themselves" section to include only internal Wiki links as well as media articles regarding awards, festival distribution, and international attention alongside academic articles. Please allow me to move forward with those updates. Dnakmigziwnan
Dnakmigziwnan, sounds good to me. I'd encourage you to create pages for these games/people as appropriate, but this is a reasonable compromise for now as far as I'm concerned. creffett (talk) 16:38, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on board, too. Please feel free to make the necessary edits. Sorry for reverting you, but I wanted you to engage this discussion before continuing. Now that you have, I, too, am removing my objection. El_C 16:41, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Creffett El_C Thank you. I didn't understand when I was accused of an "edit war." I'm just an academic new to editing Wikipedia. I thought by editing the Wikipedia page with corrected references, that I was responding to the issue. I didn't understand how to reply here. We also need more time to add people. We started with the outline first, not realizing how to time it. Thank you for your understanding. Dnakmigziwnan (talk) 16:48, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dnakmigziwnan, no problem, I'm glad we could work things out. Please feel free to ping me or leave a message on my talk page if you have any further questions about editing, rules, etc. creffett (talk) 16:51, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Creffett El_C I definitely need help understand what I should do next. Do I "undo" El_C's last reversion or do I edit the article as it is now and re-integrate the work?? Thank you. Dnakmigziwnan (talk) 16:54, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Creffett El_C Looks like I need to add it back in manually! Working on that. Dnakmigziwnan (talk) 17:01, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Dnakmigziwnan, and happy editing! El_C 23:32, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article organisation

[edit]

As a non-expert, I would like some more context to the list of games – I think it would be relevant to include information about which parts of the world the various peoples live in. Maybe sort the list by continent and by region/country/other relevant divisions? Readers can follow reference links to find that information, but it would be helpful to have it in the article itself.

I also think that the Academic studies section should be higher up in the article, to provide some general background and context before the specific information about games. Would that make sense? --bonadea contributions talk 09:10, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information Update

[edit]

As of March 2023, Achimostawinan Games's newest game, Hill Agency: PURITY&decay is released. They actually received top honors at the Ubisoft Indie Series for the game! [1] Mch2001 (talk) 16:14, 16 October 2023 (UTC) Mch2001 (talk) 16:16, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
