PDO
[edit]Are Jersey Royals unique in that they are an EU-designated PDO foodstuff produced exclusively outside the EU? Casper Gutman (talk • contributions) 01:29, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
If they aren't produced in Jersey they go by a different name (Fdsdh1 (talk) 03:14, 14 November 2012 (UTC))

Dubious statistic
[edit]The following 'fact' is taken from the BBC website During the Jersey Royal season, exports from Jersey account for 75% of all potato sales in the United Kingdom but doesn't make sense. I suspect there may be something missing from the BBC report e.g. the word salad. Reasons for thinking that this is wrong:
- The volume of potato sales in the UK per week is huge all year around. The volume of potatoes that could be grown in a place the size of Jersey could not come near to 3/4 of this.
- Even in season, salad potatoes are only a minority of potato consumption in the UK.
Hence I'm removing this 'statistic' --JBellis (talk) 10:24, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Article title
[edit]The title of this article has been changed several times now. I'd suggest discussing the correct title, and gaining some consensus. The title is now "Jersey Royals" which is possibly incorrect, because it seems to be a trademarked brand name rather than the name of a potato, and should be in singular form anyhow. Jersey Royals → International Kidney – To match the cultivar name, rather than a potentially trademarked name. See section above titled "Article title". Bod (talk) 00:28, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose: The current name has nothing to do with trademarks. Jersey Royals have PDO they are not the same as international kidneys, just like Champagne is not the same as sparkling wine. Ebonelm (talk) 08:27, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
- oppose The jersey royals are distinct from international kidney as they have to be grown in Jersey. While we could have a separate article for the variety, it would be pointless as there is little written about the variety apart from it being grown in jersey. JR is far more common than IK so there us no reason to move the article. SmartSE (talk) 14:18, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
