Correct Spelling?

[edit]

I have reversed the last edit, which changed the name of the author from Katherine to Katharine. I did a quick google search and in both Amazon and Google Books, the cover of her book clearly has the spelling "Katherine". If anyone can find stronger proof than the cover of the book that she wrote for the correct spelling, then the information can be corrected. As it is, no proof has been given for the alternate spelling. Ka-ru (talk) 17:29, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have an original 1907 edition of Carl's book in front of me and it is "Katharine" I searched in Amazon and "Katherine Carl" had no response, while Katharine Carl did. Google books had one response of Katherine (2004 reprint), while Katharine had a flood. We have original correspondence in our archives signed "Katharine." The New York Times obituary has Katharine. Speaking of, the New York TImes has her passing away in New York, which you reversed to "Peking." You also reversed the image caption to Catherine Karl." Which is it? Thanks for your consideration. http://www.askart.com/askart/c/kate_augusta_carl/kate_augusta_carl.aspx: "Kate (Katherine) Augusta Carl is primarily known as Katharine Augusta Carl'; Library of Congress name authorities, Katherine Carl only links to preferred name Katharine (loc.gov). The 2004 edition of the book (which can be found on Google Books) clearly has the name on the front cover with the spelling "Katherine", but they also have the 1907 edition with the spelling "Katharine". Amazon has both spellings listed in its entry for the book. So, with no help there, I'm happy to go with the Library of Congress details that you've provided. I've reapplied the earlier changes that you made and renamed the article. The old spelling redirects here. Ka-ru (talk) 05:06, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
