Assassination of Luca Attanasio → Killing of Luca Attanasio – The use of the term "assassination" has been discussed at Talk:Luca Attanasio#Wording - Assassination?. It now seems to be quite clear that the attack was not meant as an execution, as also the prosecutor in the case has stated explicitly. Not one of the English language sources in the article use the term, and the term is not even used in the article apart from the title, the infobox and the categories. T*U (talk) 09:45, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support as per the discussion mentioned, it is not an assassination An assassination is the "the act of deliberately killing someone especially a public figure, usually for money or for political reasons"- but there was no deliberate pre-meditated attempt to kill him, it was just a kidnapping gone wrong. And assassination is not the term used in English language sources, and so is not the WP:COMMONNAME. If Italian language sources call it an assassination, that is up to them, but almost all English language sources do not. This is the English language Wikipedia, and WP:COMMONNAME should match English language sources rather than translations of Italian sources. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:52, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support per this quote from the prosecutor: "What we know for certain is that it was not an execution. It was a gun fight, the ambassador and the carabiniere were hit by two bullets each." AllegedlyHuman (talk) 21:24, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This proposal is fine by me. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:40, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would not mind too much, either. I see, however, that news media tend to use the term "killing of" rather then "shooting of" when referring to it, so I still would prefer the first. Actually, even "assassination of" is found more than "shooting of", but mostly when referring to official Italian reactions or with ties to this Wiki article. Whatever the result, there should be a redirect from the other alternative. In other Wiki articles, there are quite a number of redirects from "killing of" to "shooting of" as well as the opposite way. --T*U (talk) 11:17, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Either is definitely an improvement; however, there are "shooting of" articles which are non-fatal as well, so I would prefer "killing of". AllegedlyHuman (talk) 17:07, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Support. This was not an assassination and no English-language media refers to it as one. Gnominite (talk) 17:57, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
