I always thought the saying "drinking their kool-aid" referred to Electric_Kool_Aid_Acid_Test rather than the Jonestown incident. Now that I've read this article, it makes perfect sense. But I wonder how many times this phrase has been misued to be non-pejorative, but rather a humorous way of saying "once you drink it, you get so high you love it?"

I always thought the Kool Aid reference was talking about the Unification Church's practice of feeding new "recruits" lots of Kool Aid to keep them agitated and pliable.*

I don't think it's a very good article, and the search is more likely to be "drinking the Kool-Aid" than "Kool-Aid drinker", but it's a phrase that's wide-spread and well-established enough so that I think we should cover it.

The more common (and much older) usage is that phrase, rather than the pejorative. The article should probably be at Drinking the Kool-Aid. I've mostly heard it in the negative as in "don't drink the Kool-Aid", personally. In any case, it remains a poor article, and I'm considering putting it to WP:AFD.
