Title

[edit]

"Lake War" does not seem like a good translation of "Seekrieg auf dem Bodensee". Srnec (talk) 21:48, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The full translation is "Lake War on Lake Constance" but that seemed too long. And I could find zero English references to it. "Battle of Lake Constance" already exists and is wrong anyway because this is not a single battle. Do you have a better suggestion? --Bermicourt (talk) 08:44, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would have translated "Seekrieg" as "naval war". Perhaps the dates 1632–1648 should be in the title, as on the German Wiki, but my main concern is that the present title looks too much like a name a reader could expect to find in use among English historians (which is not the case). A more obviously descriptive title would be better, in my opinion. Srnec (talk) 22:54, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How about "Naval War on Lake Constance"? --Bermicourt (talk) 12:46, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I'd keep "war" lower case. Perhaps hatnotes here and at Battle of Lake Constance in case there is any confusion. (Has there been any other naval battle on Lake Constance?) Srnec (talk) 17:02, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hahahaha, I think the Germans could have been forgiven for thinking they were engaged in a naval battle with the Swiss when the Stadt Zürich repeated collided with its shipping and according to a Bavarian reporter had "sunk more German ships than the entire Danish navy" in the German-Danish war. Anyway, I'ved changed the title and added hatnotes. Thanks for the helpful suggestions. --Bermicourt (talk) 18:42, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
