Deletion of institutions without articles.[edit]

I am concerned over the wholesale deletion of information, last I was on wikipedia, notability guidelines affected only what deserved their own articles, and did not mean that something could not be in a larger article. I do agree that the list of schools is not sourced, so that might be a reason for deletion. ηoian ‡orever ηew ‡rontiers 11:37, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my experience so far suggests that list articles are not just directories of everything that fits the list description, but only those that are considered notable - and notability means entries that satisfy the notability requirements sufficiently for the entry to have their own article. Without that notability being evident, anyone could add anything they want to any list without even evidence it exists. For that reason, I think I'm justified in removing entries with no evidence whatsoever of notability (or, in the case of schools, even existence). Squinge (talk) 11:49, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I should add that everything I have removed is still in the history of the article and can be reinstated if supported by reliable sources. Squinge (talk) 11:54, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But now that you have contested what I am doing, I'll stop working on other similar articles and will start up a discussion somewhere - I don't know where it should be, but I'll let you know when I start it. Squinge (talk) 12:07, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And just for information, I started my actions in response to an AN/I request at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive269#List of educational institutions........ Squinge (talk) 12:18, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't exactly contesting it in that sense, just wondering if there shouldn't be a discussion. I'm somewhat inclined to agree with deletion on the grounds of lack of citations, which your edit summary did not indicate as the reason for deletion (clearly to me). I have no problems after you explained your reasoning. Feel free to proceed (after the an/i gets resolved). Although rather than an ANI, a RfC is what the user should have filed. ηoian ‡orever ηew ‡rontiers 20:17, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
