Lehigh honorary degree

Ellis Award
[edit]Donald Trump Received Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986-Truth!
Summary of eRumor: President Trump was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986 with the likes of Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali. The Truth: It’s true that Donald Trump was presented the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986 by the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation. The New York Times reported at the time that 80 people, including Donald Trump, were awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor at a ceremony held on Ellis Island in October 1986:
The medals will be presented to the recipients, all either naturalized or native Americans, at a ceremony Oct. 27 on Ellis Island. That is the day before the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty, the final event of the 1986 Liberty Centennial observances.
The announcement of the awards was made at a news conference in a midtown restaurant by the president of the foundation, William F. May, and the chairman of the New York Statue of Liberty Centennial Commission, William D. Fugazy.
Honorary medals will also be presented to John Cardinal O’Connor; Lee A. Iacocca, chairman of the foundation, and Mr. May. Reaction by Koch
Mr. Fugazy said the medal was thought up in June, after the foundation’s naming of 12 naturalized Americans for the Medal of Liberty had produced an outcry. Critics of the award noted then that not even such major ethnic groups as the Irish, Italians and Poles were represented among the 12.
1986 was the first year that the Ellis Island Medal of Honor was presented. Today, the award is administered by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), which describes the award as such:
The Ellis Island Medals of Honor embody the spirit of America in their celebration of patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity. They recognize individuals who have made it their mission to share with those less fortunate their wealth of knowledge, indomitable courage, boundless compassion, unique talents and selfless generosity; all while maintaining the traditions of their ethnic heritage as they uphold the ideals and spirit of America. As always, NECO remains dedicated to the maintenance and restoration of America’s greatest symbol of its immigrant history, Ellis Island.
Since its founding in 1986, the Medal has been officially recognized by both Houses of Congress as one of our nation’s most prestigious awards. In that time we have honored distinguished and diverse Americans including six Presidents of the United States; Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as esteemed Americans such as Frank Sinatra, Lee Iacocca, Quincy Jones, Muhammad Ali, Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, Louis Zamperini and Rosa Parks, just to name a few.
A photograph circulating of Donald Trump, Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali after they received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor is real, too:
Trump Ellis Island Medal of Honor Donald Trump, Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali are among those pictured receiving the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1986. Donald Trump receiving the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for “patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity” first emerged during the 2016 presidential election when Trump proposed controversial measures like a border wall and a halt to immigration from Muslim-majority countries. That controversy was stirred up again after Trump was elected president and actually began to take act on those campaign pledges. Recent Left Leaning fact checkers are claiming that there was a member of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award Commitee named "Cocoa" stated that Trump did not receive the award for what the award was created for celebration of patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity but instead, for having German heritage and being a businessman, which as anyone can see doesn't make a whole lot of sense that he would receive an award with Rosa Parks and Muhammad Ali for something as frivolous as that. The Left leaning editors are attempting to strip credit for accomplishments of President Trump to further their own agenda.
Nobel nominations
[edit]He's up to 3 nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize this year. Is this covered somewhere? Pkeets (talk) 00:59, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hitler and Stalin were also nominated. If he wins, we can add it. But, there are a vast number of nominations. O3000 (talk) 01:35, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Three articles you might want to read: [1] [2] Christian Tybring-Gjedde O3000 (talk) 01:50, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is getting ridiculous. Four IPs have tried to add this six times and all have refused to discuss. Nominees are not announced or verified by the Nobel Foundations until 50 years have passed.[3] There have been instances of fraudulent nominations for Trump. [4] [5] Stalin, Hitler, and Mussolini were nominated [6]. Trump did not receive the award. O3000 (talk) 12:55, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- I would probably oppose mentioning this on the ground that a mere nomination is not an "honor or award" — but I would certainly oppose mentioning this without vital context, including that the nomination criteria is extremely loose (any professor or legislator anywhere in the world is entitled to make a nomination); that several of the repeated nominations came from, among others, a random far-right Norwegian MP; and a Japanese government nomination was made at the specific request of the Trump White House, etc. Neutralitytalk 01:10, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- A nomination for a Nobel Prize, without winning, should not be listed in Wikipedia among the "honors or awards" for Trump or anybody else. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:11, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
Impeachment
[edit]Does his impeachment count as an award? It certainly distinguishes him from all the other U.S. Presidents except for Johnson and Clinton. John Link (talk) 21:04, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Grammy Award claim
[edit]I removed the entry that said, "Grammy for supporting role in Kanye West's Life of Pablo". First of all, Kanye West's album The Life of Pablo and songs from it were nominated for Grammys, but didn't win any. (See 59th Annual Grammy Awards.) Second, there is no such thing as a Grammy for "supporting role"; if Trump had won a Grammy, it would have been in a specific category. Third, Donald Trump didn't even appear as any kind of guest performer or other collaborator on the album The Life of Pablo. Fourth, there was a musician on the album named Nico Segal, who used to go by the stage name "Donnie Trumpet", and who shared in one of the nominations associated with the album (as one of the songwriters of "Ultralight Beam", nominated for Best Rap Song). Maybe that's who the editor was thinking of? But even "Donnie Trumpet" did not win a Grammy that year; he was only nominated for one. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:03, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
Beitar Trump Jerusalem F. C.
[edit]- * Beitar Trump Jerusalem F.C., renamed themselves, adding Trump's name for recognizing Jerusalem as country's capital (2018)[1]
I've moving this to the talk page, as it seems to have been an announcement with no follow-through. A local hockey team, Brampton Beast, has played single games with Star Wars and Paw Patrol-branded jerseys, I presume that this is no different.

Georgia Order of Excellence
[edit]@Slatersteven: Re this revert. It's a bulleted list. I haven't found anything in Help:List or elsewhere in the Manual of Style that says we can't add a descriptive text to the list item. Other lists have details, e.g., List of presidential trips made by Donald Trump (2020–2021), List of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, List of The Sopranos characters. This particular award (for getting paid $1 million dollars to license the Trump name and do a promotion tour to bolster the reputation of the president bestowing the award) deserves an explanation. Space4Time3Continuum2x🖖 15:28, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Nor is there anything to say we must, but there is wp:undue (why do we need to know this about this award, and not any other, and how is this actually about the award), also wp:npov may also impact on this (see the bracketed statement). Slatersteven (talk) 15:32, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Also the first source does not seem to mention the Presidential Order of Excellence, so does it? Slatersteven (talk) 15:38, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- The first source is this, and it mentions the Presidential Order of Excellence. If you're talking about the first of the sources you removed, the New Yorker article, it says "Georgian Order of Brilliance". Seems to be a misnomer or maybe irony. The description of Trump's 2021 visit in that paragraph aligns with the current third source. Some of the other awards are self-explanatory (award to visiting head of state, honorary degrees conferred/revoked), and the organizational and international ones all have a brief explanation (s.th. he did while president). The Georgian award is an outlier that needs an explanation. Space4Time3Continuum2x🖖 16:36, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- Or a different award? It failed wp:v. Slatersteven (talk) 16:41, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
- No order of that name listed at Orders, decorations, and medals of Georgia. Space4Time3Continuum2x🖖 12:55, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that is then problem. Slatersteven (talk) 13:00, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- No order of that name listed at Orders, decorations, and medals of Georgia. Space4Time3Continuum2x🖖 12:55, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- It is wp:undue to single out this one award for special attention. Slatersteven (talk) 11:56, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Response to third opinion request: |
Because this is a series of bulleted lists, the text with seven (!) references is unwarranted for one entry. However, a reasonable number (no more than three) of the citations could be appropriately included, especially these two:[1][2] Those citations serve to point the reader to "the rest of the story'" without unbalancing the information provided to readers in rest of the list— Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 20:13, 27 August 2024 (UTC) — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 20:13, 27 August 2024 (UTC) |

- @Grand'mere Eugene: Thank you for your response. I'm not sure, though, whether "unwarranted" applies to the text as well as the number of references. Space4Time3Continuum2x🖖 10:13, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- Space4Time3Continuum2x, the text is unwarranted. However, I think this ref should be added back to give curious readers the bigger picture of events. Cheers! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 18:38, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
Fried qaulifications
[edit]Why is this due, it was a photo opp and seems to be regarded as more of a joke, why therefore is this relevant? Note however it does seem to be a real award, and thus is not disinformation. Slatersteven (talk) 10:15, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- It's due because it received extensive media coverage and was the subject of extensive commentary. Di (they-them) (talk) 13:42, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- It's not an award or honor. "French fry certification pin" — sounds like an employee lapel/or hat pin. Joke. Space4Time3Continuum2x🖖 16:02, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, that is just what is it, an employee pin for demonstrating (which Trump could not have done, so its honoury anyway) you can serve fries the McDonald's way. Slatersteven (talk) 16:11, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
