Unnecessary name change

[edit]

Not sure why this page was moved from "Metro Liner" to "Metro Transitway." There seems to be no official name change (other than a few passing references on metro.net.) All of Metro's official materials including timetables and maps (most importantly the Go Metro map at stations that were recently updated with the Expo line) still refer to the Orange and Silver lines as "Metro Liner lines." Unless there is an an official document showing the name change... I propose moving the pages back to "Metro Liner." --RickyCourtney (talk) 20:18, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your copy-and-paste move as it is not allowed under the Wikipedia licensing terms. I am ambivalent on the name change and would defer to the discussion here, but the copy-paste move had to be reverted.oknazevad (talk) 09:05, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ask an admin to change this article back before changing it everywhere, otherwise you're just doing unnecessary busy work and will end up with many redirects that will need to be fixed - many manually. If you change just this page, many of the redirects will be fixed automatically by various bots. That being said, perhaps we should make sure we're using the most appropriate name. I have no idea what it officially is.Lexlex (傻) (talk) 14:37, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Update: 2015

[edit]
I think the term "Metro Liner" actually refers to the articulated buses that Metro uses, not (or no longer) the transitway network. According to the Metro website, the Orange and Silver lines are either "Metro Transitway"s or "Metro Busway"s. Of note, there are 10-year-old references to the purchase of 200 "Metro Liner" buses; some for use on the Orange Line and others for use throughout the Metro system. See http://www.metro.net/press/2004/10_october/mta_174.htm . While it seems Metro is currently torn between the terminology of "busway" vs "transitway", it's clear to me that "Metro Liner" no longer refers to the transitway system, and instead refers to the articulated Metro bus equipment. (Also worth noting is that the Silver Line does not use "Metro Liner"-branded buses.) I propose that we be prepared for a page name change to "Metro Transitway" or "Metro Busway" or their plural variants. --AlikaAlex 00:18, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
So back when I first started this discussion Metro was referring to the Orange Line and Silver Line as the "Metro Liner" system. Now, you're right, while it's clear it's no longer the Metro Liner system, it appears they haven't decided if it's the "Metro Transitway" or "Metro Busway" system. I don't know what the name of this page should be changed to. Perhaps it's best to leave it alone until Metro decides. --RickyCourtney (talk) 05:55, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would wait for now before doing any moves... It does seem like the Metro website is using "Metro Transitway" (e.g. here), but they aren't using that terminology pervasively enough that I've noticed this nomenclature in widespread use by Metro. I check out Metro's The Source fairly often, so I'll try to remember to keep an eye to see what The Source is calling the Orange and Silver lines these days... --IJBall (talk) 15:49, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed that we should stay in a holding pattern for a little while as Metro fleshes out its busway/transitway branding issues. Of note, as if to further muddy the waters, Metro chose to use the term "Busway" during its recent signage revamp at Union Station. Maybe we should all start placing our bets now on what the terminology will be! :-) If I start to see a shift either way, I'll try to post an update here. --AlikaAlex 06:30, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Los Angeles Metro LinerLos Angeles Metro Busway – After years of ambiguity, recent updates to the system map and other signage, makes it clear that Metro is now referring to the Orange and Silver Line as the "Metro Busway" system. I propose we change the title of this article to match. RickyCourtney (talk) 03:42, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed changes to structure of Metro Rail/Busway articles

[edit]

Hi all! I'm planning on changing how Wikipedia covers the history and future of the various Metro lines, moving some material out of the articles for individual lines and to articles specifically about history and expansion. I've put a longish description of my plans and rationale here, if you're interested! --Jfruh (talk) 19:51, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

North San Fernando Valley BRT dropped.

[edit]

Metro has decided to get rid of the BRT approach to the North San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor as of this time, instead replacing it with local bus improvements. With that decision seemingly now their end game, should the column discussing the NSFV BRT be removed, heavily altered, or moved to a new category? Since its not longer a bus rapid transit project, I personally don't see why it should remain in there. If you guys do wanna keep it with its new purpose, then we should include other similar projects like Wilshire bus lanes, and various other bus lane projects across L.A., especially in the Downtown area. I want to know what you guys think we should do, for now, I'm off to make more edits on other Metro projects regarding this project. Sir Sheep (talk) 16:17, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree that should drop it from this page. I think a guide would be that routes only get on this page if they get a color/letter designation from Metro. I assume the NoHo-Pasadena line will get that, even though it will have fairly extensive mixed-traffic segments. --Jfruh (talk) 16:23, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
