Unencyclopedic

This page has a problem with unencyclopedic content. People keep adding silly comments into the article. We must work to prevent this, as this is an encyclopedia, not a fan club. I added the list of games when this article was first getting going, but now people are messing it up by making puns and going on rants about how awesome everything is. It's annoying and bad for wikpedia. Noone has this name yet (talk) 11:57, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I totally agree. This gets too focused on tips for the games, it should focus on Nitrome. I tried adding fansite-taggings, but someone seems to have removed this... The games-section should be scaled down to only a list, and perhaps release dates. This article really needs major reworking. ☺ Spiby ☻ 18:16, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Dirk Valentine

Why does that one game get its own article, when the other games do not? Toxic, Hot Air, and Sky Wire have sequels, and thus should be first in line for own articals...--JAdouble (talk) 03:31, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, should each game have its own article? I'm a person who likes consistency, and there's certainly enough info for all the games in Nitrome's blog. On the other hand, if every single Nitrome game has its own article, then some people might expect a article on every single flash game on the Internet, which is probably not going to happen. If you feel a particular game is worthy of its article, make one. Don't just do it because you feel you should. Some games are worthy of extra recognition, others aren't. Those which are selected are done so at editors' discretion. If you like a game so much you want to create an article about it, it's probably worthwhile. Overhaul

Proposed removal of templates

After a good chunk of work, I've overhauled the vast majority of this article. With the acceptance of others, I think this is enough to warrant the removal of {{POV}} and {{cleanup-rewrite}}. However, there are still enough uncited comments that the last template should remain. How do others feel about that?

Crew

I feel the "Crew" section is unnecessary. It's totally unsourced and not particularly useful to those reading. Fair enough that the founders, Mat Annal and Heather Stancliffe, get their names into the article, but the full list currently in place seems slightly over the top.

Section Order

I reordered the sections to put "Games" before "Website design" (lower-cased, as it seems more appropriate), seeing as the former is surely more important than the latter for a game development company. I left "List of games" as it was because it's too long a section to look right going second.

"List of games"

This is a mess of a section. I think there's a couple of things we can do. My preferred option is to have a {{main}} linking to List of Games made by Nitrome Limited or just List of Nitrome Games followed by a simple list of the games (still in "main", "mini" and "mobile" sections) with no details.

The new article ("List of...") would then contain a row for each games containing: Name, Release Date, Commissioned for, Gameplay, Notes. If there are no objections to this proposal, I shall begin implementing it within the next week.

Other changes

I've improved all the old references and added one new "real" one. Four other links were added for cohesion in the article. I've also removed one of the external links (jayisgames.com) because it seemed like an advertisement. How can you have "official game reviews"? Surely that's just cheating. If anyone has evidence otherwise, put it here before including it.

How about if we make a chart for the games?

I was planning to do this, under List of Nitrome Limited games, with the columns you've suggested as well as whether it was a mini-game or not, who it was commissioned by and how many players it was for. I then intended to shrink the game list section in this article with a {{main}} link to the detailed article now created.

I sent an email to Nitrome asking if they could provide me with details of release dates, commissioners and number of players and Mat Annal replied that a Wikipedia article already existed, which totally disheartened me from the whole idea.

Anyway, I think we need to put the games in a table with details, yes. But I still think it should be done on a separate article (and the name above seems most appropriate, looking at similar lists) since Nitrome have produced a lot of games and the section is taking up too much room in this article.

Well, the problem I see is that right now we only have dates for like 10% of the games, meaning that it couldn't be able to be sorted appropriately in a chronological order. That is your absolute personal point of view, this is not a fan journal and it should never be. The game says "Mega-Lazor" which is the official name that we should use. Once again, WIKIPEDIA IS NOT A FAN JOURNAL. Everything you write needs sources, sources, sources, sources. Remember, this article is in the making, we are going to source everything. Someone recently moved this page from "Nitrome Limited" to "Nitrome Ltd". Per WP:NCCORP, the title should be Nitrome (since "The legal status of the company is not normally included"). Owned by MTV

Don't know why someone is insisting that Nitrome is or was "owned" by MTV. Nitrome are a completely separate company and have only ever licenced their games for use on MTV's websites. They are also not in Miami. 81.151.91.94 (talk) 22:51, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

The Number of Employees is Speculation

I work for Nitrome. Whilst I will refrain from editing the article, I must point out that we do not employ 15 staff and we freelance work to musicians, they are not in house staff. We have also had people leave the company and we also employ staff you are currently unaware of. Do we not employ administrative staff? Who cleans the offices?

This comment of course is unprovable, you've no evidence either way that I'm employed by Nitrome or not. But then you've no idea who is still employed by Nitrome either do you? Think - why haven't some staff members you think are still employed not releasing games? Perhaps they are working on a big project. Perhaps they work for someone else.

WHY?

Like a month ago, I posted a link to a wiki about Nitrome. A Bot removed the link, saying I shouldn't link to it. I read the rules, and it said I shouldn't link to wiki's, but can link to them if the wiki has a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors. The Nitrome Wiki is completely stable, and has been since it was created. It has 3 regular contributors who contribute on a daily basis, along with 1-2 new users a month. The Nitrome Wiki keeps up-to-date on all Nitrome games, including updating pages when new content arrives.

Most of the readers who come here would probably want to know more about Nitrome, but seeing how all the information Wikipedia has about Nitrome is about the company itself and a brief description of the game, readers would probably still want to know more about Nitrome. I placed the link on the "Nitrome" page so readers could click it and read more about Nitrome, about enemies in games, hazards, characters, and other content from the games.

Also, the Nitrome wiki has no "Mirror or Forks" of Wikipedia, all content is original. All I ask if it could be possible if I could place the link to the front page to the Nitrome Wiki on the Nitrome page. If I can't, I understand. --67.55.33.63 (talk) 19:25, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

No HTML

Removal of section

Yes, I am the person who wondered why the Nitrome Wiki link was removed. Now I wonder why the Nitrome Wiki section was removed. The Nitrome Wiki was featured on Nitrome.com by Nitrome, and in an interview. Why was the section removed? Shouldn't it have a section? Also, I think Nitrome Universe should have a section, or at least a link, as both Jon and Mat Annal have commented on the site, and it is also well known. --66.49.183.139 (talk) 14:10, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand why it needs its own section. This is an article about Nitrome, not everything that has to do with Nitrome. I'm not sure whether the link should even be included (because of #12 on this list in the external links guideline), but I don't mind it staying there for now. The link is okay to be there, as it complies with the guidlines of not being a site to link to (what I mean is its okay to link to the Nitrome Wiki). The Nitrome Wiki is stable and has a substantial number of editors. It is also is not a "Mirror or Fork" of Wikipedia. Out of date

I've looked over this article for Nitrome.com and I have noticed it is out of date for Heather Stancliff has left nitrome and the four categories for Nitrome games don't even exist. Surprisingly the game section is uptodate yet this article isn't which is puzzeling.
