AhiravanAhiravana – Ahiravana is a sanskritham name & this variation is specific to a few languages & not reflective of the character's actual name nor the naming conventions of the characters in that language/era.It would be misleading to rename this character with a modern name that is not the original name. His brother is named Ravana, & he is named Ahiravana. The pronunciation is reflected in the Indian script in which this name is written where there is an -a at the end. Schwa deletion (the rule of not pronouncing the last vowel) does not exist in Sanskritham. 174.44.177.134 (talk) 16:23, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Ahiravan" seems more common than "Ahiravana" with a google search. Please cite sources for your assertions. Jim1138 (talk) 02:04, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can see Ravana, his brother's name's spelling, and see the rest. It is simple Ravana with ahi added in the front. here's a book: https://books.google.com/books?id=GSwbBQAAQBAJ&pg=PT42&lpg=PT42&dq=ahiravana&source=bl&ots=EwXm0wZSug&sig=Wf2KavMDvQK5nf2WH550HUDgB5Q&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiaqaGJmdXcAhWuq1kKHSymCUgQ6AEwIHoECBMQAQ#v=onepage&q=ahiravana&f=false

that preserves the proper transliteration.

and another. https://books.google.com/books?id=ZMgclIr9aeEC&pg=PA196&lpg=PA196&dq=ahiravana&source=bl&ots=YONaU0B_2q&sig=Xw5GiwvMjX3U_bBFLDkmWLYtZzw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiaqaGJmdXcAhWuq1kKHSymCUgQ6AEwIXoECBAQAQ#v=onepage&q=ahiravana&f=false

keep in mind that the google search results reflect a representation of a singular language/region's variation of the original name. If this were a Hindi/Punjabi/Bengali etc. wiki then Ahiravan or whatever variation would make sense, but this isn't. This is talking about the original historical character. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.44.177.134 (talk) 05:40, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

अहिरावण- this is Devanagari, the most prevalent script used to write Sanskritham. ण-here is the ending letter ण-this translates as -na https://www.omniglot.com/images/writing/sanskrit_cons.gif here is an alphabet & transliteration of the alphabet. 3rd row, at the end is the -na letter. this word is spelled ahiravana, not ahiravan which would require something called a halantha, which would drop the ending -a sound. is this information sufficient? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.44.177.134 (talk) 05:47, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About title

[edit]

Actually, the article is about Mahiravan not Ahiravan. I made necessary edits. Please see if the title can be changed. Deepansambeg (talk) 16:45, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 14 September 2022

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved back to the stable title, Ahiravan, to revert the undiscussed move. There is no consensus here on either the spelling issue or the primary-topic issue. No prejudice against speedy renomination. (closed by non-admin page mover) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 18:24, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Dr. Vogel (talk) 12:35, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This requires arguments that this Mahiravana is the primary topic, which should be accomplished in a formal RM. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 17:05, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The only other article is about the film, and the film is about the ruler that the requested article is about. But I don't know if there's evidence that the film is more important than the person or vice versa. So probably RM as Mellohi suggested. Dr. Vogel (talk) 23:07, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
