Marder

[edit]

I think this should be made into a disambiguation page since we also have the Marder I, Marder II and Marder III. Oberiko 13:39, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Successful?

[edit]

How can it be judged as successful and solid design, when it never saw action? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.180.112.154 (talk) 12:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is used in Afghanistan since 2006. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.113.121.2 (talk) 22:14, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You might not be able to assess every aspect if a vehicle is not used in war, but you can say a lot from practice use, like is the engine strong enough, are all the systems reliable or prone to failure, is it ergonomically easy to use or awkward and difficult, is maintenance easy or difficult and so on. The soldiers using it are generally quite happy with it, that also says something. And the use in Afghanistan couldn't solely decide about it being good or bad either. For example, in Afghanistan, the soldiers really missed air condition, but mind that it was build for the central european battlefield, where ac is unnecessary, so this can't be judged as a shortcoming of the design.--79.194.242.185 (talk) 21:57, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mistakes

[edit]

I have corrected two mistakes. There is only one hatch at the turret, not two. And the Marder got four reverse gears. This is some kind of unusual. All other german tanks, i.e. Leopard and Leopard 2, got only two. But the Marder has four. Just as an information, this also means, the speed forward and reverse is the same. This makes the Marder reverse faster than the MBTs. 87.179.71.216 (talk) 20:34, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
