"Wikify" tag

[edit]

The tag, having been added by User:Zoe, was removed by User:Sam72991, who has been the principal editor of late on the page, ostensibly because of his disagreement with her having previously edited his work, as expressed here. Irrespective of the personalities involved, it is plain that the article requires Wikifcation . I write here only to explain why I am re-adding the tag (lest I should be seen as reverting without explanation) and further to suggest to Sam, inter al., that I cannot imagine that Zoe tagged the article in anything other than good faith (toward which proposition I adduce her continued good work here in cleaning up articles, as well as the fact that the propriety of one's adding the "wikify" tag here is surely beyond dispute) and that, in any case, having an article on which one has worked tagged for "wikification" should not be taken as an insult; at worst, it should be perceived as a challenge (to improve an article, here procedurally--bringing into conformity with accepted Wikipedia guidelines--as opposed to substantively), and, at best, as help from another editor who seeks to improve an article. The "wikify" tag in no way suggests that an article's subject is non-notable, that an article is poorly written, or that an article, on the whole, doesn't meet Wikipedia's quality standards; the tag, of course, says simply that the layout is inconsistent with the Manual of Style. User Joe, could you explain what you just posted. I don't get it. From User Sam72991.

My biggest fault is not having explained to this new editor the reasons for my adding the tag. Thanks, Joe, you said it much better than I could have. User:Zoe|(talk) 18:45, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia/Records section

[edit]

I've tagged this section with the three tags because it is HUGE and it's pretty hard to digest. A lot of the information on there is not written to an encyclopedic point-of-view. The section sounds like a pageant review that comes from an external Pageant page linked at the bottom of the article.

Also this section is so poorly written, grammatically, it's not even funny! Some people have tried to clean it up already, but it still looks out-of-place with the rest of the article. If I were to edit this section, I would just probably delete around 80% of the text. Seeing that I don't have the patience to re-write this section, can someone else deal with this section, please? Thank you. smileydude66 00:25, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I've gone ahead and done it... I've deleted a good chunk of it and left only some relevant trivia in the section. smileydude66 07:57, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Participating pageants

[edit]

There are a whole lot of articles that can be created for the different Chinese beauty pageants all around the world that send representatives to Miss Chinese International. A few have been created (NY, Vancouver, Toronto), but a couple of Google searches return many other pageants around the world. Search for "Miss Chinatown", and Search for "Miss Chinese". French Polynesia

[edit]

French Polynesia should be in Oceania, not Europe. The flag icon for Hong Kong's winner in 1988 should be the Blue Colonial Flag (Hong Kong was still under British rule). Hac129 08:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
