– Sorry folks. I know these diacritic RMs are supposed to be a thing of the past and Tech Moves are available. However someone discovered a cluster of Serbian footballers and a basketballer (possibly from before soccerway.com followed sportsreference.com and went Unicode?) and a formal move request is required. Per WP:UE "German for German politicians", WP:EN "Tomás Ó Fiaich, not Tomas O'Fiaich", WP:NCP "Antoni Gaudí", WP:MOSPN "Wikipedia normally retains these special characters", WP:RS "sources reliable for the statement being made". Incidentally, evident with User contributions in each case that stub creators were diligently trying to spell fully, just missed these in haste. The ASCII names aren't deliberate. The articles have already been moved by someone not involved in this discussion. Judging by the the outcomes of similar discussions and the direction this is already going I recommend to let the move stand until the discussion is closed without creating an official status-quo Agathoclea (talk) 18:25, 1 August 2013 (UTC) [reply]

I agree with Agathoclea, with thanks for informing the mover about why they moved these pages in error. Dohn joe (talk) 21:14, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, with a question on one. These all seem to fall under the limited-English-usage exception in WP:UE, so there should not be an issue with using the diacritical versions here. Except - Milan Jeremic seems to have taken Greek citizenship. Since we seem to unofficially follow a person's chosen nationality when it comes to diacritics, what impact does his Greek citizenship have on the rendering of his name here? An interesting question, since Greece does not use the Latin alphabet. If he had moved to Australia, we could comfortably remove his diacritics - but what about here? I welcome any thoughtful responses. Dohn joe (talk) 21:14, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
