Page Standards

[edit]

While I'm not a huge fan of the NBDL, there is a new team in my hometown (Austin), and so it has brought the league to my attention. The NBA certainly seems to be committed to keeping this league going, so it's probably in the best interest of Wikipedia to make these pages at least decent. I've personally established the new pages for Austin and Albuquerque, and now the only teams w/o standard format pages are Tulsa and Arkansas. While I realize these teams may continue to be fluid in location (as will their players), is anyone other than me interested in perhaps keeping these pages up-to-date? EWS23 22:18, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

I am interested and am currently helping upkeep anyway. I'm the athletic trainer for the Florida Flame and have been an avid 'pedian for months. Eric 04:18, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I left a comment on your talk page about the name change (I think "NBDL" rather than "D-League" should be used for sentences talking about things which happened prior to the summer 2005 name change) - what do you think? 81.110.86.44 07:31, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody typed in Tulsa 89ers in the American Basketball Association page. Wrong, they are the 66ers of the NBA D-league! Some anon don't know pro basketball and I bet he's lost in everything. 207.200.116.203 22:43, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Call-ups?

[edit]

How do callups work between the NBDL and NBA? Does each team "own" a player, or just the teams that are affiliated with a NBDL team, or can any NBA team take any NBDL player? --AW 21:06, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added some about this, but I still don't know that question --AW 21:45, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scores?

[edit]

what is up with the scores for the first two championship games? why is it 2-0 and 2-1? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.250.153.87 (talk) 02:25, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Tulsa66ers logo.jpeg

[edit]

Image:Tulsa66ers logo.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Future Expansion

[edit]

The future expansion section keeps getting deleted and portland gets added as a future city, but this team hasn't been approved by the NBDL yet. I will undo this change unless given a reason. Just like the MLS, the NBDL should have a future expansion section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.254.75.46 (talk) 04:49, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MAP

[edit]

I don't know how to do maps, but one could be added like the one on the NBA wikipedia page. Hawk8103 (talk) 18:27, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mexico City is not accurately located on the current map 184.180.14.221 (talk) 17:07, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Attendance

[edit]

Can anyone add average attendance figures either for each team or each game. I have found some on forums, but they are older and it would be nice if they came from a more official source. Hawk8103 (talk) 18:27, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This should be added if we can find the information, much like other minor league sports (the wnba in particular) have in there pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cooly123 (talkcontribs) 02:34, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion

[edit]

Should be mentioned a new team in the northeast will be announced in late March 2009 (offical site) brining 2009-2010 to 18 total teams--Cooly123 (talk) 01:13, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The playoff seeding will be differnt for 2009. The top 3 divison winners as well as the 4th place overall finisher will select their opening round opponent from the remaining 4 teams, with the top seed selecting first and so on. Eight teams will quality this year. --Cooly123 (talk) 14:30, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any updates on additional teams or relocating teams? There hasn't been much talk since the Frisco team has been announced for 2010. -- 20:32, 25 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talkcontribs)

My question is if Harlem, NY gets a D-League team, where will they play? BigBoi29 — Preceding undated comment added 99.140.240.146 (UTC)

The playoff format for the 2009-2010 will change once more. All 3 rounds will be a best of three series. The pick your team feature of last year returns as well. nba.com/dleague--Cooly123 15:26, 12 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cooly123 (talkcontribs)

Looks like Phenix Arx is trying for a team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cooly123 (talkcontribs) 02:36, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Players with Championship Experience

[edit]

Jelani McCoy actually was a member of the Laker team that won the NBA title in 2001-2002, although he was not apart of the active roster during the playoffs, so I'm not sure if that counts as being a title winner [1]. McCoy played for the D-Fenders in 07-08.[2] --Rick9109 (talk) 11:53, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

league chart

[edit]

Since the 2010-2011 amount of teams is yet to be confirmed, the number should be removed. There is still a possibility that teams may expand or retract or even move altogether. We may have anywhere from 16-18/19 teams this upcoming season.--Cooly123 00:42, 10 July 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cooly123 (talkcontribs)

The league already confirmed 16 teams for the next season, comprised of 15 teams from previous seasons and the Texas Legends who formerly Colorado 14ers (2006–2009).[1] Another team from previous season, the Los Angeles D-Fenders, decided to go inactive for this season with a possible return in 2011.[2]. There is no news on the possible return of Arkansas RimRockers amd Fort Worth Flyers. — Martin tamb (talk) 11:03, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NBA Gatorade League name implementation

[edit]

Hello anyone who cares, two weeks ago I moved this page to NBA Gatorade League as editors began making the changes over to the 2017–18 season and as of 2017–18 the league is to be called the G-League. It was an apparent but undiscussed consensus and until recently there has been no push back. However, User:Spshu has pointed out that this move may have been premature (even if the editor in question has been going about it in a rough way) as, officially, the next season does not begin until July 1 (if I remember the CBA correctly). Spshu has been changing the lead so that it does not match the title which is against Wikipedia guidelines. The question is, do we think we should move the page back to NBA Development League for the next three weeks and change every thing back to the 2016–17 status? My biggest argument against reverting back is that almost all the participating teams have made there changes to their 2017–18 status (South Bay Lakers from the D-Fenders, Iowa Wolves from Energy, new affiliations, coaches, and expansion teams named, etc.) Argument for reverting back is WP:COMMONNAME and that the league website has not changed over yet. Thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yosemiter (talkcontribs) 02:49, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

While we may have been a little premature, moving it back now only to have to move it again in three weeks is pointless. It's fine the way it is. oknazevad (talk) 03:33, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NAMECHANGES would add weight as to how they refer to it after the name change becomes official, so even after the name change it may not assume the new official name. For example, it could be more referred to as "NBA G-League" then "NBA Gatorade League" (thus the lead would read "NBA G-League, officially the NBA Gatorade League,") or the NBA D-League might stick as fans and media don't like the sponsoring out the name of the leage. I do see Oknazevad point, thus I have not made an official article name move request and just change the lead paragraph name, while acknowledging the future name. It seemed like a good compromise. But, Oknazevad has indicated that this is against guidelines too (not having the lead name match the article name). I am not fond of yo-yo sponsorship naming and its effect on college bowl game thus effecting article titles (not that I have gotten too deep with that issue on WP). Thus maybe Gatorade drops its sponsor early and we get another sponsor or PepsiCo decides to intervene to transfer it to another brand. This inconsistency may force people to commonly disregard the official name for Developmental League ('call it what it is'). Granted this is just food for thought and multiple name sponsor switches may not happen. Spshu (talk) 17:53, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In a further development on the name of this league, it appears that the league (as noticed here) is not using "Gatorade League", just "G League" (with no hyphen). I have check through their new website updates and that certainly appears to be the case. Per COMMONNAME, Gatorade is still getting some usage, but most reports have began adopting both the shortened name and non-hyphenated G League. Any thoughts and moving the page again? Yosemiter (talk) 21:00, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have no axe to grind, but looked into this as an admin considering a speedy nomination of the categories for renaming to "NBA Gatorade League". I concur that the official website uses "the NBA G League",[3] and Google has 91,000 hits for that phrase, compared to only 8,000 for "the NBA Gatorade League". – Fayenatic London 20:55, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Fayenatic london: Agreed and done. I have been checking periodically and finding about four times as many news sources for G League over Gatorade League. The only issue still to be determined is if the G-League usage vs. the G League usage will cause a change again (both show up for me when searching "G League"). The league still uses G League, but news sources are split about 50/50. Yosemiter (talk) 21:11, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Page has been abused

I believe this page has been largely deleted and vandalized TargetBuster (talk) 05:10, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Do we think we need to link to every single defunct team on here? Personally if it just redirects to the latest iteration of the franchise I don't think it's really necessary, especially when most of the time the current franchise is also linked. A lot of these team pages need cleanup, and I think there would be some value in many of these defunct teams getting their own pages. (particularly in the case of the Erie BayHawks where they persisted through multiple team affiliations) AuburnShuffle (talk) 21:34, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@AuburnShuffle: The Erie BayHawks are not defunct they moved and changed their name to Birmingham Squadron. Catfurball (talk) 22:00, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah sorry I meant the teams in the defunct/relocated section. AuburnShuffle (talk) 15:50, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Elam Ending

[edit]

If this league is actually using the Elam Ending for OT, it should be mentioned & linked in the article 2600:1004:B14D:D5E9:0:48:BD90:5C01 (talk) 22:20, 27 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
