The result of the move request was: Moved — Amakuru (talk) 20:14, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
Nagano (disambiguation) → Nagano – No primary topic, and the pages that currently link to the base title are divided between (a) those that clearly should go to Nagano Prefecture, (b) those that probably should go there but currently don't and might look to the naked eye like they don't have a problem, and (this appears to be a minority) (c) those that actually are meant to go to Nagano, Nagano, so the large number of disambig links that would be created by the move in the short term would actually solve more problems than it would create. Opening separate discussions here and at Nagano, Nagano (→ Nagano (city)) since there were varying levels of agreement in the previous discussion (here) as to the two alternate proposals, which were only loosely related to each other anyway. - Support. Page views are similar and I don't see other indicators of a primary topic either. Making Nagano a dab page will alert readers to the ambiguity and help editors to find and fix bad links. Certes (talk) 13:51, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support per above. Curly "JFC" Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 14:24, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support, and there are several others that should probably be changed in the same way. Dekimasuよ! 16:38, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Dekimasu: I did a brief check, and there are several, like Iwate, that should probably be changed the opposite way (Iwate Town is just an arbitrary name that was selected because the group of municipalities that merged to create the town were all located fairly close to Morioka, where the actual rock-hand that gives the prefecture its name is located) and some others, like Niigata, that probably do not need any change to their status quo. For that reason I think these ones, more even than the "Fu, Fu" problem, probably need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Hijiri 88 (聖やや) 22:53, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- I agree that these that need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. For some the prefecture should be the primary topic (if not the article location). But I think primary redirects to cities should be altered to move the disambiguation page to the base title at the very least, for cities the size of Kagoshima on down. Wakayama is another. I'm not even sure about Okayama. At least Kumamoto is a designated city, but.... (and we haven't gotten back around to Gifu.) Dekimasuよ! 23:08, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Indeed. Gifu is an outlier, and may be without good justification. I believe that part of the Japanese Alps are in the prefecture, but the city appears to be on a plain perhaps surrounded by mountains, but not actually in the mountains. wbm1058 (talk) 13:21, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

- Support. When there's a fairly big city and a prefecture with the same name than I don't believe anyone would be astonished to find a dab page at the base term. —Xezbeth (talk) 06:53, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- While I favour having the city at the base name (see comments there) we don't redirect the undisambiguated title to the disambiguated title, therefore if the city isn't at "Nagano", the DAB should be. Crouch, Swale (talk) 08:06, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support. This is the easy one compared with Nagano, Nagano, and I hereby officially belatedly retract my 2014 objection to this. While ideally we wouldn't let links to ambiguous titles get so out of control, sometimes there's a need to bit the bullet and force disambiguation. To me, this is very much like New York... better later than never to finally get the disambiguation page to the base title. I've fixed a few; this will take some judgement so it may take some time to do them all: diff, diff, diff, and diff. I was doing these with AWB, for three of the four I decided that they needed special handling. – wbm1058 (talk) 13:21, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support. There's no clear primary topic here, so a dab page makes the most sense.--Cúchullain t/c 19:09, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support. I considered proposing to redirect Nagano to the prefecture, though that is probably not significant enough. feminist (talk) 06:14, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support the nominator's logic (and their volunteering to fix the links!) Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:51, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

Incoming links
[edit]We've fixed most of the 489 incoming links to this page, mainly by diverting them to the city or the prefecture. There are still about a dozen where the meaning is not obvious. Please can editors familiar with the topics help out? Thanks, Certes (talk) 17:00, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
