Notable?

[edit]

If someone taught thousands, over a many years, and "had the ear" of a world leader, would that person be notable? There's a citation to a short story of how R'Nissan Neminov was selected to be the "sacrificial" messenger to the Lubavitch Rebbe - TAKE A VACATION. (the answer was a polite "no") Pi314m (talk) 06:52, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Neminov, Nemenov or Nemanov

[edit]

Sources use all three of them. Most sources in this article use an "i" or "e", while I saw only one that used an "a". In tales about him I usually hear an "e". So please, User:Blagablaga123, stop changing to "a". Debresser (talk) 13:29, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ok no problem It’s just that I know people with this last name and they all spell it with an a Blagablaga123 (talk) 22:34, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just added an external link to burial info in the Mount of Olives database, including a photo of his tombstone.

The last name is spelled in Hebrew (actually Yiddish) נעמאנאוו, the closest transliteration to English should be Nemanov.

Nissan NeminovNissan Nemanov – The name on his tombstone is נעמאנאוו (as seen in the photo in the external link), the closest transliteration to english is Nemanov. Mnemanov (talk) 21:52, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Relisting. ~SS49~ {talk} 00:15, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Since this is a Yiddish name being transliterated into English it is not surprising that different sources will have different spellings, these external sources are not authoritative and such a tiny number of references is hardly convincing, certainly not more convincing than his own tombstone. Additionally, none of his children or grandchildren (including myself) to my knowledge use the spelling with an i. --Mnemanov (talk) 21:13, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I checked on https://forebears.io/, and it turns out that there are approximately 43 "i", 60 "e", and 428 "a". That is in line with Blagablaga123's claim above, as well as the claim of User:Mnemanov who says he is a grandchild. I did the search that User:Mnemanov proposed, and found 858 with an "a", 392 with an "e", and 382 with an "i". The fact that the Hebrew is spelled with an "a" is even more convincing. In short, I do not oppose this move any more, and even though the move proposal was closed as "no consensus", since I was the only opponent, I think the move can now be considered as having consensus.
