The Pearl Incident

[edit]

Did he have a role in the Pearl incident, as suggested by this WashPost article? 71.182.244.126 (talk) 22:21, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are two independent citations saying that he was, so I added this information. — Lawrence King (talk) 04:39, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jan 2012 book

[edit]

There is a new book out about Jennings, author = Elizabeth Downing Taylor. Could have some good info for this article.

Reference consolidation

[edit]

I consolidated the references to the book by Jennings. It was way too confusing and redundant to have all those listed with parenthetical comments about how pagination differed from book and website. The problem primarily is that it tried to reference two different editions. Only need to reference one edition. The link in the reference to the book transcribed by UNC was from the original. The other edition found on Google books is from a reprint edition done later. It has slightly different pagination. I left the link to the Google book in external links, but consolidated the references based on the UNC transcription. Thank you. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 18:29, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not in first section

[edit]

The sentences " In 2009 his descendants were honored at Montpelier following a lecture on Jennings. They were also invited to a private viewing at the White House of the Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington, which Jennings helped save during the War of 1812 and the British burning of the Capitol." shouldn't be in first section. The fact is already mentioned in the "legacy and honors" section and should be deleted from introduction.--Pere prlpz (talk) 21:59, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Jennings (slave)Paul Jennings (abolitionist) – Given current sensibilities, the term "slave" is outdated in favor of "enslaved person". Furthermore, Jennings is also notable for his contribution to the Pearl incident, among other abolitionists. I therefore propose we change the parenthetical to "abolitionist", acknowledging his actions rather than an uncontrolled identity. This matches the Wikipedia treatment of Harriet Tubman, who is listed as an abolitionist in the drop down when one searches her first name. The same first name search shows Harriet Jacobs as an "African-American survivor of slavery, abolitionist..." etc. It is time to update the page for Paul Jennings.
