Sports History

[edit]

Port Of Los Angeles High School captured its first CIF-Los Angeles City Section sports championship in 2011, when the softball team defeated Northridge Academy, 2-0 at Birmingham Community Charter High School on May 25, 2011, the first of three straight CIF-LACS Small Schools Division titles. Since then, the sports at POLAHS have won eight more CIF-LACS championships, with the last one coming on November 8, 2019, the girls volleyball team winning in four sets over East Valley High School of North Hollywood for the Division 4 title. Other notable championship victories was the baseball team winning the Division 3 championship in 2014 with a 3-2 victory in nine innings over Fulton College Prep of Van Nuys on June 9, 2014 at the University Of Southern California. An infield single by Angel Munoz drove in Chris Marshall with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning for the championship run. On March 3, 2017, a goal by Anna Vidovich with 20 seconds left in regulation, followed by a golden goal by Gisselle Mora with two minutes left in sudden death overtime, gave the girls soccer team a 2-1 victory over Grant High School for the CIF-LACS Division 2 championship. The other CIF sports championships for POLAHS were won by girls cross-country (2012, 2013) and competitive cheerleading (2018, Division 4).
