Chronology

Reversed order of Fontenelle (1688) and Perrault (1687). Perrault's poem was published in 1687 in François de Callieres's Histoire poetique de la guerre nouvellement declaree entre les anciens et les modernes (which was not itself strictly a partisan of one side or the other).

Title vs. Content: Title Misleading, Content Too Narrow

[edit]

This article's content is too narrow for its title. One of two things needs to be done. Either the title needs to be modified to reflect the fact that the article only describes a very particular aspect of the Ancients-vs.-Moderns debate, or the content needs to be considerably expanded.

Historically, the debate between Ancients and Moderns goes back to the beginning of the Renaissance, was pan-European in scope, and was conducted (at first) principally in the Latin language. Zakethtrarr (talk) 12:26, 22 July 2014 (UTC)zakethtrarr[reply]
