GA Review[edit]

Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch

Hi, I'll be reviewing this article. The rules for GA reviews are stated at Good Article criteria. I've never before done a review but I imagine I'll be doing to review in the order: coverage; structure; detailed walk-through of sections (refs, prose, other details); images (after the text content is stable); lead (ditto). Feel free to respond to my comments under each one, and please sign each response, so that it's clear who said what.

When an issue is resolved, I'll mark it with  Done. If I think an issue remains unresolved after responses / changes by the editor(s), I'll mark it  Not done. Occasionally I decide one of my comments is off-target, and strike it out -- Aaroncrick (talk) 11:58, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am stoked. I made a few changes this afternoon so it might be a little different already. Looking forward to fixing any screw ups!Cptnono (talk) 06:43, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage[edit]

Prose[edit]

Verifiability[edit]

  • Few minor claims without references. Aaroncrick (talk) 21:44, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • As mentioned above, I added some in during the last 24hrs but will keep on going to get any taking care of. Are there any in particular that you noticed?Cptnono (talk) 07:03, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Added ref to record Hawks crowd and removed unsourced info about teams practicing before games at the Kingdome.Cptnono (talk)
  • Seahawks — "The biggest crowd ever to attend a Seattle Seahawks football game was 68,331 on Monday, November 12, 2007 against the San Francisco 49ers."
Fixed
  • Home field advantage — "Opposing teams often practiced with rock music blaring at full blast to prepare for the often painfully high decibel levels typical of Seahawk games."
removed unrelated to Qwest Field anywaysCptnono (talk) 08:14, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The total was at 78 false starts at the end of the 2008 season."
Flashes on the scoreboard so is probably original research. Removed along with outdated 2007-2008 total. Will readd a 2008-2009 total if I find a source that tallies them all up.Cptnono (talk) 07:42, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • NCAA — "The Showdown on the Sound" versus the Portland State Vikings will take place on October 31, 2009."
Fixed
  • High school "The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association puts on the annual Emerald City Kickoff Classic at the stadium. The event is a season opening series of games between some of the best teams in the state."
Fixed Those are some big boys... good to see the local kids win!Cptnono (talk) 08:14, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sounders FC — "The first Sounders FC regular season match was at the stadium on March 19, 2009. The first goal was scored by Fredy Montero in a 3–0 Seattle victory."
Fixed Great match
  • Other events — "The events center hosts pre-game events for the Seahawks and Mariners. According to the Public Stadium Authority, the event center contributes more than half a billion dollars to the region's economy."
Fixed? Added "according to the PSA website..." + link. Their numbers should be OK but let me know if a secondary source is needed.
  • Stadium contracts — Levy Restaurants provides food and beverage service for the stadium and exhibition center.
Fixed Added a source for Levy + info

Shouldn't be too hard to find citations. could possibly be in previous cites. That's without looking at them individually, but the rest of the article looks real cool. Thanks, Aaroncrick (talk) 07:03, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks. I just did the first two. Most of the others are reliant on external links. I should be able to find coverage for inline citations.Cptnono (talk) 07:31, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Links validity check[edit]

Check for disambiguation and other dubious wikilinks[edit]

The disambiguation is in the Seattle Sounders FC template under Culture: Historical Sounders clubs Cptnono (talk) 06:50, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's funny. I searched the article for at least 5 minutes until I thought to check the drop down menu.Cptnono (talk) 07:33, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

  • "Along with sporting events, the venue host concerts, trade shows, and consumer shows." Change to " ... The venue has hosted: concerts, trade shows, and consumer shows." 22:21, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

  • "Qwest Field was designed with soccer in mind and the first sporting event at the stadium was a USL Seattle Sounders game." Funding[edit]

  • "Following the failure of a 1995 county bond issue to both build a new stadium for the Seattle Mariners and to rehabilitate the Kingdome for football, Seahawks' owner Ken Behring threatened to sell or move the franchise." Add "consequently" between "Ken Behring threatened." 22:27, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Done? Is "following" and "consequently" redundant? I can always add another line to clarify if it is.Cptnono (talk) 22:55, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't really matter as "Following" is the first word in the sentence. Aaroncrick (talk) 23:04, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
FixedCptnono (talk) 23:37, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • When saying somethings worth million, use this template: 1.6 million. (Gotta go edit to be able to see it) Aaroncrick (talk) 23:12, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was working under "Where values in the millions occur a number of times through an article, upper-case M may be used for million, unspaced, after using the full word at the first occurrence" with the non breaking. (Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Numbers) The guideline at WP:MOSNUM#Numbers says to use the spelled out version. If you think spelled out looks cleaner and is more common I'll switch the all real quick.Cptnono (talk) 23:34, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My knowledge with commercial real estate is a little below this so I took the wording straight from the source and added a wikilink: "...runs 30 years and includes options to extend for 20 more."Cptnono (talk) 11:43, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, so better of changing it. If you keep the wording, put in speech marks. Aaroncrick (talk) 11:57, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Is the Qwest Field logo really needed considering there is already a nice lead image? Aaroncrick (talk) 21:49, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was there when I got here. I have seen logos and image used together so assumed it was OK. I personally don't like it but if it is standard...Cptnono (talk) 21:52, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's not standard for FA articles. Old Trafford and City of Manchester Stadium don't and I've seen it come up somewhere with many people removing because it's non free and not really necessary. Aaroncrick (talk) 21:57, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Conversely, there are not naming rights for those stadiums and I assume Qwest would be happy about the specialized logo. I still don't like it though so I'll poke around for a few minutes and see if I can get a concrete answer.Cptnono (talk) 22:17, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, silly me. York Park doesn't, but I wrote that article, so that's not a great indication. Aaroncrick (talk) 22:22, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the stadiums with naming rights here in the states seem to have it: Template:NFL Stadiums. Heinz Field in Pittsburgh is GA and it does not, though. I'll keep on looking or remove and make a help desk mention.Cptnono (talk) 22:30, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Screw it. The fair use rationale policy states "Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." It isn't needed in both of our opinions it looks like so I'm removing it. I'll still check around but for now better safe than sorry.Cptnono (talk) 22:39, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The readers understanding of the topic won't be significantly decreased. Aaroncrick (talk) 01:05, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed

References[edit]

  • A lot display differently. For example, some are displayed (2002-07-18) while others are (November 9, 2007). Also some aren't in the brackets and displayed 2007-11-13. They all need to be the same, and remember all newspapers article need to be in italics. Aaroncrick (talk) 22:10, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Blargh... I thought I grabbed all of the italics. I'll got through again (I hate formatting those sometimes). The reference date will be in parenthesis while the access date will not be. I was looking into date format last night. Should I use month names or numbers?
I think the italics are done. It's an absolute pain in the ass! But has to be done. Doesn't really matter, whatevers easier. Aaroncrick (talk) 22:20, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I use User:Cacycle/wikEd. This gadget automatically generates the access date which does not use "( )" per the standard template. The work's date does receive "( )" and the date is typed in by hand.Cptnono (talk) 22:43, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And I just noticed a couple that are off. Let me see if it is a template (news and web are both used) thing and figure out what to do. Sounders game (away so not as much fun) is on so I'll start doing it in a couple hours!Cptnono (talk) 23:31, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Take your time, it's annoying. Aaroncrick (talk) 01:02, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Another 0-0. Those bums. Fixed
