  • No DABs, external links good.
  • Can you dig up a map of Manila Bay and perhaps a general one showing the Philippines?
  • Any paintings available for any of the ships involved?
  • In the lede, it's not clear where the China Fleet destination is.
  • tropical illnesses had substantially weakened the available crew on the squadron Phrasing is a little odd. Do you mean that the numbers of available crew were reduced for the squadron?
  • commander at Cavite Rear-Admiral Don Ignacio María de Álava comma after Cavite
  • Put the titles of your references in title case.
I don't know what this means.--Jackyd101 (talk) 22:56, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Generally you've capitalized the titles of your refs, but not all of them. Be consistent, and in one of them the world "against" is not capitalized.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 00:34, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this - I've done most of them, with one question above. I couldn't find a decent old map of Manila or an image of the ships which didn't have them fighting in a different battle (which I think would be misleading). I can keep looking, although I will be away without internet for a few days.--Jackyd101 (talk) 22:56, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you that any paintings showing the ships in battle would be misleading, but I didn't know if anybody had done one of those common "running with a full spread of canvas, possibly with a storm in the background"-type paintings using one of the ships involved. As for the map, Manila Bay would be nice, but a more general map of the Philippines would also serve, preferably one that shows the other locations that what's his name also visited.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 00:34, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I understood what you meant, but unfortunately I have not yet seen any images of that type available. As for the maps, there are no old maps of Manila that would adequately illustrate the events of the article. As for old maps of the Philippines, the options are [1] or [2] neither of which are particularly helpful. I'll scout for some more, but as I said, it might be a couple of days. Doesn't have to be an old map, a modern one would do just fine, I think. Take your time, no rush.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 13:24, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's maps of Manila are truly terrible, but I've found one that shows the relevant section of Manila Bay (and a lot of the city which didn't exisit in 1796). I've added it along with a red dot marking the approximate site of the raid. Hope this helps. I'll be away over the weekend so any further edits will be next week. Good enough.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 22:54, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
