October 3 general strike

[edit]

The general strike proposal was originally put forward by the anarcho-syndicalist CGT and CNT along with some smaller anarchist groups - not the CCOO who endorsed it just recently, as did the UGT. It was also originally proposed with a neutral view towards independence and primarily as a response to the repression of the Spanish government. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.240.203.113 (talk) 08:14, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lib Dem Cllr

[edit]

I have deleted the quote from a Lib Dem Cllr, the individual is wholly irrelevant and quoting him on the reactions page gives a false sense of importance which is wholly beyond that warranted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.162.135.170 (talk) 23:06, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WSays who? He is a democratically elected representative of more value than the individuals.Lihaas (talk) 20:52, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Where is your secondary source to show that anyone else thinks that his view is notable? If after 9 days no reliable secondary source thinks that the opinion of a local politician in a suburb of Swansea is worth including in their reports, then tough, it shouldn't be in. The article quotes the leader of the Liberal Democrats, and that's enough; it doesn't need to quote a comment made by one of the c. 1,800 Lib Dem councillors in the UK as well. The result of this discussion was to merge. Consensus being clear, merger proposal older than 30 days and nobody having objected. Impru20 (talk) 20:31, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Relatively small article covering a current event which would fit in well to the Reactions to the Catalan independence referendum, 2017 article. Vasemmistolainen (talk) 10:42, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Vasemmistolainen Relatively small article because it is 15 minutes old. I suggest you propose a merge of 2017 Catalan general strike. On the basis of the outcome of that proposal, we can decided on this one. Sonrisas1 (talk) 10:53, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge. 2017 Barcelona anti-independence demonstrations's topic is not notable enough to deserve an article on its own. As per WP:NEVENTS, The topic of an article should be notable, or "worthy of notice"; that is, "significant, interesting, or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded". Rather, these demonstrations were a specific, local sub-event of another one, not meeting the WP:LASTING, WP:GEOSCOPE, WP:INDEPTH and WP:PERSISTENCE criteria on its own and not notable on their own without an explanation of their context (which was the reaction to the 1 October Catalan independence referendum). Note that as per WP:EVENTCRITERIA not every incident that gains media coverage will have or should have a Wikipedia article. A rule of thumb for creating a Wikipedia article is whether the event is of lasting, historical significance, and the scope of reporting (national or global reporting is preferred). This is clearly not fulfilled for the 2017 Barcelona anti-independence demonstrations. Impru20 (talk) 12:43, 7 November 2017 (UTC)|[reply]
  • Comment:Impru20, do you also want to merge 2017 Catalan general strike to this article? We can propose a merger right now due to these WP:LASTING, WP:GEOSCOPE, WP:INDEPTH and WP:PERSISTENCE criteria which also apply. Or do they not? You are aware these demonstrations were covered globally and made the front page in many countries?Sonrisas1 (talk) 13:51, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
They were covered as part of the Reactions to the Catalan independence referendum, 2017, not as a stand-alone event. Indeed, you yourself seemingly fail to expand 2017 Barcelona anti-independence demonstrations beyond a few lines (despite continuous assurances on the contrary), and there's not much content to add about these neither than what is already there. What's the purpose for it to being separate then? These demonstrations can easily be covered within this article.
If you think a merger applies to 2017 Catalan general strike, go ahead and propose it, but this discussion is for the merger of 2017 Barcelona anti-independence demonstrations. Also, I think that WP:SIZESPLIT applies to 2017 Catalan general strike (which is at about 20 kB, and if merged here, would result in an over 80 kB article), so I don't think a merger is appropiate there. Nonetheless, propose it if you think it should be done so, but using another article to justify not merging this one is not really an argument against merging. Notability criteria do exist for something, specifically to ensure that editors create articles that comply with major content policies. 2017 Barcelona anti-independence demonstrations is essentially a WP:PERMASTUB, and as of it, should be merged into this one.
