Slavia Prague

[edit]

Im not sure about the translation of "Sešívání" into english.... if someone knows please change it

Yeah, the "sewn-ones" sounds like something out of a horror film. I would suggest "the halves", which is what that shirt design is usually called e.g. on FIFA games, but I will get some more opinions before editing. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 11:28, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've explained it in a footnote, I think this is a better approach. I polled a group of translators who all said they avoid going near the term when writing in English. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 12:26, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Logo slavia.gif

[edit]

Image:Logo slavia.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Logo size

[edit]

I think the logo should be 100px wide. Some users set the width at 180px, but the logo doesn't look well stretched that way. Nazgul02 (talk) 11:12, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slavia PragueSK Slavia Prague — English name, move over redirect. All the other Czech teams have their initials (SK, FK, FC, AC...) with their team name. Cloudz679 (talk) 10:08, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]
Any additional comments:

Interesting... my Google searches [1] [2] give more than four times as many ghits for Slavia Prague as for SK Slavia Prague, and the first few pages all seem relevant, indicating to me that the normal English name is just Slavia Prague on its own.

This leads me to wonder whether perhaps the other teams should be renamed, rather than this one. Is there a discussion somewhere that established the practice of including these initials, or are they just used in official names used on English pages on the team websites and similar sites, but not in common English?

I do vaguely remember similar discussions in the past. Andrewa (talk) 16:08, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, for example Manchester United F.C. being used despite Google, etc. having far more many hits for "Manchester United". Same situation with Real Madrid C.F., AFC Ajax, FC Spartak Moscow and as far as I can see every wikipedia team name. Cloudz679 (talk) 18:21, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Where? Andrewa (talk) 00:35, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Interesting. Andrewa (talk) 07:56, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Common name should not be a policy followed to the letter because it doesn't take into account disambiguation (there are so many holes in using GHITS as an argument, the point is there are other Slavia Pragues around, such as cs:HC Slavia Praha), or common sense, the most commonly used name for MUFC is probably "Man United" or "Man U", which would be a silly article title in an encyclopedia. There needs to be more of a balance towards accuracy in article titles. - filelakeshoe 12:45, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why are the coaching staff details included in the Ownership and Commercial section, that’s unlike the majority of other football club listings. Andyeff (talk) 18:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
