Smaragd (genus)Smaragd (gens) – Skimming this article suggests genus is a synonym or variant spelling of gens. Since the topic of this article more closely fits the primary meaning of gens than the primary meaning of genus--in fact genus (disambiguation) doesn't even seem to confirm this usage of the word--wouldn't Wikipedia:Writing better articles#Principle of least astonishment recommend the article title use gens instead of genus? 173.67.42.107 (talk) 20:46, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Different words. See Category:Hungarian genera. The word used is genus. This and generatio seem to be the contemporary terms, often translated "kindred". For the meaning "lineage", see wikt:genus#Latin. Neither genus nor gens appears in the featured article Hungarian nobility (but "kindred" does). In medieval Latin, gens usually meant people or nation, not clan. I have added italics to the title of this article to indicate that the word genus here is foreign and not the common English word genus. If this is accepted, it should be done at all articles in the category. I wonder, however, if an article on the Hungarian nobility can be written to FA status without the word, whether we'd not be better to go with a disambiguator like "Hungarian kindred" or just "kindred". • I agree with Srnec that if accepted, this change would have to be applied to a significant number of articles in Category:Hungarian genera. Dekimasuよ! 08:11, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
