Etymology
[edit]Is the etymology of snežana: "sneg" + "žena" correct? It looks like folk etymology or simply a mistake. I would find an etymology "sneg" + "-ana" more accurate (g -> ž due to palatalisation). "-ana" is quite common slavic suffix for creating feminine proper names and there are some other feminine slavic names following this pattern (e.g. Svetlana: "svetlo" + "-ana") —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.102.58.13 (talk) 18:20, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
- If you or someone else has a different source giving a different etymology, go ahead and change the article, listing your source of course. I used the meaning giving by Behind the Name.com --Bookworm857158367 (talk) 22:03, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
It is very arguable that Zhana, Žana, Jan or other variations are related to Snežana, since the former ones evidently predate the latter and derive from the ancient name John and its variations.

- It does not matter that the ancient name exists. The same name may be used as an abbreviation for an unrelated name. Another issue is the statement is unreferenced. I am adding the corresponding tag. Staszek Lem (talk) 20:27, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
