Regional definition[edit]

I am looking for authorative sources for a regional definition.

In passing the National Geographic references the 867 Terrestrial ecoregions of the world. South eastern NSW is covered by

  • Australian Alps montane grasslands (AA1001) [1]
  • Southeast Australia temperate forests (AA0409) [2]
  • Southeast Australia temperate savanna (AA0803) [3]
  • Map is at [4]. I think 867 regions seems not sufficiently precise for our purposes of regional definition.--A Y Arktos\talk 22:41, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does not make sense[edit]

The "south west slopes" region is a region of New South Wales, not Victoria. If it is regarded as a bioregion ( rather than some other type of region ), the part of Victoria contiguous with the "south west slopes" region of New South Wales, would be the area around Wodonga and Wangaratta. This is north-east Victoria, not western Victoria as the article current states. Eregli bob 07:51, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

South West Slopes (New South Wales)South West Slopes — Superfluous dab. Miracle Pen (talk) 14:58, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The dab is needed. Hundreds of high areas across the world have southwestern slopes. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 16:05, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • But are there any others which are specifically referred to as South West Slopes? Mhiji 16:39, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak support no other articles exist and the chances of another "southwest slopes" or "south west slopes" article is slim going by some searching online. Bidgee (talk) 16:28, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support unless anyone can provide an example of where any other slopes are referred to by this name. If so a dab page or hatnotes might be required. Mhiji 16:39, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment There might be many south-west slopes, but there's only one "South West Slopes". At any rate, disambiguation (whether hatnotes or in a title) is supposed to distinguish one article from another, not distinguish articles that have been written from articles that might be written at some point in the future. Miracle Pen (talk) 17:31, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support pending evidence of the existence of other places called "South West Slopes" in reliable sources. Disambiguation is for actual not potential ambiguity. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 06:43, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support- agree with Mattinbgn. Disambiguation shouldn't be done for its own sake. Reyk YO! 23:40, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support No other articles by this name, so disambiguator is unnecessary. In any case, South West Slopes is a redirect to the current title. Skinsmoke (talk) 02:39, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
