Stopselclubs incorporated as registered associations

[edit]

In the Bavarian registry of clubs, one can find 18 Stopselclubs which have officially been registered as Registered association (Germany): https://archive.is/4tW17 The total number of Stopselclubs is of course much higher because most of them do not bother with the legal paperwork of officially incorporating. In the WWW, the existence of more than 100 local Stopselclubs is documented: http://de.pluspedia.org/wiki/Liste_von_Stopselclubs and https://web.archive.org/web/20170617153743/http://de.pluspedia.org/wiki/Liste_von_Stopselclubs The real number of Stopselclubs is probably much higher because not all of them are mentioned in the WWW.--Stopselliese (talk) 15:41, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Illustration

[edit]

If the text is correct, the illustration seems badly chosen because what is shown is not a real bottle stopper but something "custom made from metal". Andrew Dalby 17:56, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are right. The people who are active in these clubs typically use the word "Stopsel" when referring to the object which they have to carry. The German word "Stopsel" can mean "cork of of a wine bottle" or "plug" or it can mean something like "(small) cylindrical object". I assume that initially most clubs started by carrying corks from wine bottles, but later some of them switched to using other cylindrical objects of a more convenient size. The person whose hand is shown in the photo is active in a "Stopselclub" whose members decided to use cylindrical metal objects which one of the members machined. I assume that many other clubs still use cork bottle stoppers. I did not include any of this information in the article, because I am not aware of any reliable source for these statements.--Stopselliese (talk) 20:20, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I understand! Thank you for explaining. Andrew Dalby 17:13, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
