Clean-up and Improvement of this Article

[edit]

This is an important article, but it could really use a top-to-bottom revamp. I've been going through and attending to some of the more glaring grammar issues, but the content needs to be reshaped by someone with more expertise on the subject than I possess. As it currently stands, it is written from a profoundly POV perspective which uses emotional language to describe the "Tea Tribes" and their circumstances. At the same time, it is clearly written from an outsider's perspective, which is fine, but some of the terminology used ("these people") sounds rather patronizing. One gets the impression that the writer is loath to call them "Tea Tribes" but doesn't have another term to replace it ("Adivasi," maybe? Or perhaps "Assamese Adivasi" to distinguish them from the Adivasi in the rest of India?" Again, the attention of an expert on this subject would be really helpful). I am also skeptical of the "Physical Characteristics" section, which hearkens backs to an archaic system of racial and typical classification. For instance, members of the Tea Tribes are described as "strong." Surely members of any ethnicity can be strong, just as they can be weak; we can't classify whole ethnicities along the lines of broad generalizations that don't correspond to reality.

I think this article has potential and a lot of basic information that can be salvaged and reshaped for a much crisper, less biased presentation. Furthermore, in light of the recent violence in Assam, it's an important subject that deserves proper treatment.Tigercompanion25 (talk) 00:01, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name of Article

[edit]

"Tea garden community of Assam" is correct name for the article as So called tea tribe are not entirely tribal or Scheduled Tribes people as it also includes several Scheduled Caste, Other Backward Castes and other. SO these caste population as tribe is incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dev0745 (talkcontribs) 07:12, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
