Fair use rationale for Image:DoublelifeVeronique.jpg

[edit]

Image:DoublelifeVeronique.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:12, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Song

[edit]

Does anyone know the name of the song that Veronika was singing when she died..? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.136.115.226 (talk) 08:12, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The ever hauntingly beautiful song Weronika was singing before was collapsing and died was an interpretation of the excerpt of Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy" (Paradiso-Canto II):

"O voi che siete in piccioletta barca, desiderosi d'ascoltar, seguiti dietro al mio legno che cantando varca, (3)

tornate a riveder li vostri liti: non vi mettete in pelago, ché forse, perdendo me, rimarreste smarriti. (6)

L'acqua ch'io prendo già mai non si corse; Minerva spira, e conducemi Appollo, e nove Muse mi dimostran l'Orse. (9)

"O Ye, who in some pretty little boat,
Eager to listen, have been following
Behind my ship, that singing sails along,
Turn back to look again upon your shores,
Do not put out to sea, lest peradventure,
In losing me, you might yourselves be lost.
The sea I sail has never yet been passed,
Minerva breathes, and pilots me Apollo,
And Muses nine point out to me the Bears."

(Translated by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow )

The Music is composed by Zbigniew Preisner under the pseudonym "Van den Budenmayer". Preisner said "Van den Budenmayer" is a pseudonym he and director Krzysztof Kieślowski invented "because we both loved the Netherlands". Music "by" the Dutch composer plays a role in three Kieślowski films.
