Capitalization and punctuation

Toby seems to like to confuse everyone with his name and punctuation on album releases! While one of the users here reverted "TobyMac" to "Tobymac", it seems to me like most people are using "tobyMac". tobyMac.com and Forefront records sites both use this spelling, even when it's at the beginning of a sentence! I wonder if he's changed it around over the years...

tobyMac puts a fresh, smooth coat of paint on his 2005 Grammy nominated and Dove Award winning album, WELCOME TO DIVERSE CITY, with the August 30 release of the full-length remix disc, RENOVATING DIVERSE CITY. ForeFrontRecords.com

Press releases are leaving out the arrow on the new album, Renovating->Diverse City, but Amazon and AllMusic have it listed with one. --J. J. 13:10, 2005 August 30 (UTC)

We probably should iron out which one to use, just for claritys sake. It does seem that tobyMac is the one currently in use. TheJosher 21:31, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

It is tobyMac.

This Christmas

Is This Christmas really an album or an EP? why is it a "mini-album"? Dan, the CowMan 21:02, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I have only seen it listed as an actual album, but seeing as it contains just two track I personally wouldn't even call it an EP AlEX 17:23, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
So its a single then. Dan, the CowMan 20:22, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
If it has two tracks, doesn't that make it an LP? --Apprentice Anakin 02:09, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
No, generally an LP (long play) is a real album (8+ tracks). Two tracks makes a single, four an EP (Extended Play). Dan, the CowMan 04:52, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Filmography

Should I put the videos from Dc Talk in the filmography? I feel like I should, because he was in them, as Toby McKeehan. And, he referred to himself as tobyMac in the song "Jesus is Just Alright". I am going to go ahead and put them in, and anyone who wants to get rid of them can talk about it on this talk page. Later!!! 64.12.116.71 01:46, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Picture

There has got to be a Toby Mac photo somewhere online. Why not on here? --MrRandomGuy 03:45, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Toby's record label

Just to clear up some confusion about what toby's record is. Last time I checked, toby was with ForeFront Records. He is the PRESIDENT of Gotee, not an artist. For a complete list of Gotee artists, go to [1] or Gotee Records. For a complete list of ForeFront artists, go to [2] or ForeFront Records.

Yeah, but generally, on an EP, the songs are usually put onto an LP, right? This isn't. It's just a really short album, I think. 71.102.100.109 17:32, 21 August 2006 (UTC) St. AltaPunk

Portable Sounds

Toby announces here that the new album will be called "Portable Sounds". Should I create a page for this?--Chilifix 00:10, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

What is Toby's real name?

Since information was posted here incorrectly indicating that Toby's real, given name is Tobias, and that information has now spread to several other websites, and is now believed by many to be his true given name, I would like to settle this matter once and for all.

Toby's given name is Kevin Michael McKeehan. To prove it conclusively, I have created two screen captures of publicly available records. These are public records available to anyone on the internet, but to minimize an invasion to Toby's privacy, I have blurred out information that doesn't need to be so readily accessed and isn't pertinent to settling this matter.

The first public record I would like to show is from Google maps, showing the location of True Artist Management, Toby's management offices, at 227 3rd Ave. North, Franklin, TN 37064.

The next screen capture I'd like to show is from the Williamson County, Tennessee property records, indicating the owner of 227 3rd Ave. North, Franklin, TN 37064 is listed as "MCKEEHAN KEVIN M". There is no indication of a Tobias there, on an official property record.

As I stated in a note on Dec. 23, I have known Toby for 16 years. I have had occasion to see his passport and other official documents. Never have I seen any document indicating his given name is anything but Kevin Michael McKeehan, and never have I seen the name Tobias on any official document. Further, I have never heard the name Tobias mentioned by any of his friends, family, or business associates.

I do hope this is conclusive to everyone's satisfaction.

"Kevin, Michael, McKeehan"... doesn't that sound like the 3 members of dcTalk? -- Apprentice Anakin 02:04, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it does sound a little coincidental, which still leaves me skeptical about “Kevin Michael McKeehan” being his real name. I'll have to check this out some time. --Wade A. Tisthammer 22:51, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Toby also made mention that his real name is Kevin Michael McKeehan during an interview in dc Talk's 1992 Nu Thang video. Maybe few people have seen that?

An interview done recently by Southern Exposure Magazine said his name was Kevin Michael as well . /current/current-profile --Micahgeek 21:09, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

OK off-topic, but while you did blur out the info, you failed to blur the URL at the top which just left it wide open to get toby's address and etc. And yeah, his name is Kevin Michael Mckeehan...Get Over It People!

Tobias (Toby) wasn't part of his birth name, though it made sense that he would've used Toby when starting dc Talk--if he didn't there would've been two vocalists going by name Kevin. Now he just carried Toby over for tobyMac since that's what he is always referred to.

Why doesn't Toby Mac just legally change his name to Toby Mac McKeehan? Also I've seen DJ Maj play the tambourine twice. I got to see Toby Mac live at the State Fair back in October and I got to see him at Winter Jam 2009 the other night. Sincerely, (~~71.68.223.17~~)

Boomin' music video

Should I mention that there will be a video for Boomin' from Portable Sounds coming in May? I don't know where it would fit. They're filming it now, I think. I have a link to the page where they announce about it: Here it is.--CJ King 19:45, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I could add something there about it. Check though and make sure it's all correct. Jac roe 21:03, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Guest Appearances on Other Albums

OK, I am not positive if I'm right, but on the list of guest appearances it says "GRITS My Life Be Like" (with a red link) and just 2 lines down it says "GRITS Ooh Ahh." Aren't these the same song? My life be like Ooh aah.. It says they are both on "Art of Translation." Shouldnt that red linked one be erased, it doesn't exist. Joooeeeelllll 23:38, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

The new album

The new album is coming out on December 5, 2006. I don't know what the name is or what any of the songs are called. You can see some video of them working on it at his website. Later!!! Chili14 (Talk) 21:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Boomin/Underdog

Should we include a link to the Underdog commercial? Or was it exclusive to the Disney channel? Jcpizzadude 14:20, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I believe a link is necessary to show that we aren't making this up. I've added a {{fact}} tag to that statement. Jac roeBlank 20:52, 14 August 2007 (UTC
I looked at the official Underdog website, but I couldn't find an ad with Boomin' in it, so unless someone can find it I'm removing the quote..

I think that you should look it up on Youtube.com or Google.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.121.17.18 (talk) 01:20, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

How does tobyMac really look?

cause I look at this page and i thought he was black at first then i go to the official website and he looks white (not that it matters) and... honestly is this image really of tobymac on this article? i just got into tobyMac's music a bit thats why i'm wondering. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.196.63.114 (talk) 13:15, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

label

why is toby's record label smaller than the one he owns?70.124.132.176 04:41, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Because he has a contract with them from Dc talk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.120.136.57 (talk) 20:03, August 29, 2007 (UTC)

No one cares about the contract they asked why is Fore front smaller and it is smaller because it doesn't get many pepole and its styles are least famos i think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.66.189 (talk) 02:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

New CD

When will his new CD come out and what's it called?

Well, I'm not sure when you posted that, but his "new" albujm is Portable Sounds. As far as what he is going to do next, I expect a Remix album as he has done that for all his past albums. Who knows, though, he might surprise everyone. \

New EP

I heard in the first CCM magazine of 2008 that Tobymac is planing to make a Live album from his tour "Boomin beyong mesure" and hopes to release it in 2008. But don't put that in the artical cause he said he hopes to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.67.47 (talk) 03:05, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank's for adding the name=]

Should we keep the new image on here or switch to the old one? If we decide to stay with the new one, the old one will be deleted. Jac roeBlank 21:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

I like the old one better. The new one is a good photo, but it doesn't look like toby to me, although a change in imagery every so often is good. Jcpizzadude 13:40, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but if if the old one doesn't get used in an article, it will be removed from Wikipedia. I believe that we should switch back. It's fair use. Besides, you can see tobyMac's face better in the old one. Jac roeBlank 18:57, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
I've used the old image in the article Portable Sounds. Now it doesn't matter. Jac roeBlank 22:08, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Copyvio

I previously removed two sections that were copied wholesale from other websites. I've just noticed that much of the remaining biographical content was taken from http://www.dctalkunite.com/tobymac/biography.html. It wasn't copied quite as completely as the other sections, but it definitely needs to be dealt with. Any suggestions? Since some of it was reworded slightly, and I'm not sure where the line is between rewording and copying, I hesitate to edit it myself... --Fru1tbat (talk) 16:45, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Momentumdvdcover.jpg

Image:Momentumdvdcover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Discography

I think tobyMac should have a separate discography page. This article is big enough to have all the title get bold and stuff (idk if Wikipedia does that automatically or if a user did that but w/ever). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcpizzadude (talkcontribs) 17:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Come someone just make a discography page please! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.29.155.141 (talk) 21:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Just created a discography page for him, removing most of the extensive info from this article and putting it all on the discography page. I'll try working on organizing the new disc article, since it's only okay as is. I, too, had noticed that the discography section was getting way too long, and in general this article is kind of a mess. It would be great if this article were a GA someday, but that's far off at this point. I'll be rewriting and expanding it more now. --JamieS93 15:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Major rewrite

I think this artical need a major rewrite for many resons. 1.This artical is about Tobymac, not about the band diversity. 2.It needs to talk more about not only is solo career but also about Dc talk. 3.It needs things like how he started in the music industry.and these aren't the only problems. Anyone else agree? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.119.235.118 (talk) 18:20, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Just a simple yes or no. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.29.146.211 (talk) 18:09, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

This isn't a very active article, so I probably wouldn't expect a flood of responses... In any case, at a quick glance, information on the Diverse City Band only takes up one small section, so I'm not sure anything needs to be done about it. dc Talk already has its own article. I think the section here should be limited more or less to Toby's involvement, not a detailed history of the band. And there used to be more information on his solo career, but as it was copied directly from other sources, I removed it. Maybe some detail should be added back, but not if it's going to just be copied from other sites like before. --Fru1tbat (talk) 22:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
In response to you all, I agree, this article really could use a re-write, a task I'm starting on now (I'd appreciate it if anyone has input on it!) I do think there should be a decent section about dc Talk, being that they were so influential and it's basically how Toby got started in the music industry. This is a general biography about him, though (not just his solo career), so his influence with dc Talk and solo works should be equally emphasized on, although there will probably be more to mention about his solo music, record label, etc. Anyway, tobyMac isn't on my back burner anymore. :) Leave me a message on my talk page if you have any suggestions as to what to do (I'd like some help with this). --JamieS93 16:11, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Alive and Transported

Should we mention Toby's new c.d. Alive and Transported now or after it comes out? The K.O. King (talk) 23:28, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

How Gotee Records Came To Be

Tobymac got the name "Gotee Records" like this...During the recording of the dc Talk song Socially Acceptable Kirk Franklin and some background vocalists were recording they were doing a part that went, Let it go T, let it go, let it go T, let it go. At the time they recorded this Toby had a gotee growing a gotee on his face and that's how Gotee records came to be. I might have mixed it up a bit but you can hear the oroginal story on the dc Talk, Free at Last: 10th Aniversary (hope I spelled that right) edition. Should this be mentioned on the article? The K.O. King (talk) 02:22, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

The Slam

The Slam is turning out to be quite a successful song. It has been featured on several commercials, part of the NCAA Championship Tournament, a Microsoft computer game, and it has won awards. It has also been featured on a Blackberry Storm commercial. SuperComp (talk) 15:28, 2 December 2009 (UTC) This is just proof that Toby continues to make great music that can be appealing to anyone, while still being called "God music". If you want to hear this song, you can hear it on Toby's fourth album, "Welcome to Diverse City". It is the third track. You can also hear it remixed on the fifth tobyMac CD, "Renovating Diverse City". On there, it is the second track. Later!!! 205.188.116.135 18:42, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

It was used as the entrance music for a pro wrestler, and appeared in the ad campaign for Transporter 2 too. And it's a doggone catchy song too. :) MattSutton1 01:14, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

The slam is now being used for commericals for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

"Atmosphere" has been on several car commercials, I think Hondas.Sorry about capitalization, dang Dell's messed up.

It was also used in commercial for the TV show "Prisonbreak", and on Sportcenter's "Ultimate Highlight". And yes, "Atmosphere" was used for car commercials. "Burn For You" was used for a commercial too, I believe for cinnamon gum. RoryS89 04:12, 7 June 2006 (UTC)RoryS89

Merging

Should we merge Tonight (TobyMac song) with this article as is requested by the template on the article? I think it should have it's own article saying as it's so popular. Don't we recognize songs that are number one songs? Master Frederique (talk) 02:27, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

It's not number one of the billboards... It can't be. It's not even a radio single. just dump the article for now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.176.99.197 (talk) 06:59, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Rewrite

The tobymac page is sloppy and needs to be totally redone. The part that needs the most fixing is the solo career part. This page needs to be like the Newsboys page. The Newsboys page goes through the years of the band. We need to revise the dc Talk section a little, but not much. If you have any ideas please help me clean up the page. See the Newsboys page to see how the tobymac page should be. The K.O. King (talk) 14:46, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Alright I think I did a decent job fixing it a little, but it still might need cleaning up. Tell me what youu think of my revisions. I think the page is much more organized (which was my intent). We need more info on the albums though as well so if someone can find information on Toby's albums and post them in the appropriate section that would be excellent. The K.O. Is tobyMac Mark Stuart's brother-in-law?

I read in the thank-you's of the Welcome to Diverse City CD that he thanked two people named "Mark and Kerri Stuart". He also said that photography was done by a lady called "Kerri McKeehan Stuart". This is possibly his sister, because I know he has one, along with an older brother. I wonder, is tobyMac's sister married to Mark Stuart from Audio Adrenaline? It would explain why they are on the same record label and why they co-headlined the Welcome to Diverse City tour.--Chili14 (Talk) 03:20, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, Marc Stuart married Toby's sister.

The relationship between dc talk and Audio Adrenaline goes back to about 1990. The guys in Audio Adrenaline were attending college at Kentucky Christian College and were then in a band called A-180. Every summer the school put on an event called Summer in the Son [sic]. dc talk performed in concert at this festival in 1989 and 1990.

At the time of the 1990 show, A-180 had just recorded a somewhat flippant and goofy side project and called it Audio Adrenaline. The project contained two songs, "DC-10" and "My God". The guys had given a copy of this project to Toby McKeehan at Summer in the Son. They also contacted Nashville radio promoter Nancy Reece to pitch "My God" to Christian Rock radio. The single became a hit and landed on the national charts.

When the single appeared on the national charts, Toby suggested to his label, ForeFront, that they should sign Audio Adrenaline. A contract was offered and signed. The band members moved to Nashville in 1991 and recorded their first album for ForeFront.

Mark began dating Toby's sister Kerri a couple years later and they were married in January 1995.

A promo video filmed for (I think) a Winter WonderSlam tour (2004/5?) had Truett ("Tru-Dog") calling Mark Stuart "Uncle"...
Yeah, Gotee is very much a family record. Matt Hoopes of Relient K is married to the daughter of Mark Lee Townsend, former dc Talk guitarist and producer of all of Relient K's albums.RoryS89 04:31, 19 August 2006 (UTC)RoryS89
They're not brothers-in-law anymore. Mark and Kerri were divorced a few years back. Lucius Funk (talk) 02:11, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

New album release date

Toby had stated during the tour that the album was planned to be released in May of 2015. But due to record labels pushing back releases, I thought it would be best not to specify a date. Ilovechristianmusic (talk) 00:25, 8 January 2015 (UTC)ilovechristianmusic

That's nice, but without a source, we can't use the statement. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:06, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Update Toby's picture

The first photo on the top, right side of the screen is a bit old. Is there a way that someone could update it with a picture taken from the "Eye On It" era? (2012-2014) Ilovechristianmusic (talk) 00:33, 8 January 2015 (UTC)ilovechristianmusic

If you know someone who would be willing to release such a picture under a license permitting reuse and modification, than please, encourage them to upload an image. I did a Google Images search and couldn't find anything with suitable licensing.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 03:15, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Old is not a reason to replace an image. It should represent the subject, not necessarily be current. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:07, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I agree on a picture representing it's subject, but Toby looks a bit different now from when he did in 2005. But, as for me, as a reader, I like it when a picture is updated, even from the last 4 years or up. Ilovechristianmusic (talk) 19:10, 8 January 2015 (UTC)ilovechristianmusic

Beyond Me

Ok, been going back and forth with a few Wikipedia editors on the album. So, there is a new album. "Beyond Me" is the first single off of the new album.[4] I have added a new section for the album. It should not be a part of "Eye On It", since they are two separate albums. I have stated all my sources. Ilovechristianmusic (talk) 19:32, 8 January 2015 (UTC)ilovechristianmusic

I have removed it as the album has not title. TBA is not its title. At best, we could state it's an upcoming album. Do not put references in headings. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:34, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your help/insight on this situation. Ilovechristianmusic (talk) 19:59, 9 January 2015 (UTC)ilovechristianmusic

***This Is Not A Test***

I changed This Is Not A Test to ***This Is Not A Test*** due to Toby's website, FaceBook, and Twitter showing that it had "***" Before 'This' and after 'Test'. It is slated for release on August 7 of 2015. So tentatively should be changed to slated. I added the album to the section of his discography, and updated the reference of his album due to his official website being a more reliable source. Updated photo

I reverted an updated photo addition to the infobox, File:TobyMac in Concert.jpg, as unflattering. If I'm wrong and the article needs an updated photo, feel free to revert. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:56, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

The conflict of interest editor who uploaded the image has restored it so you can see it for yourself. Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:13, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Reverted my edits

Hey Walter Görlitz, the newest edit to this article said "date formats per MOS:DATEFORMAT by script", but it completely reverted all of my previous edits which added many reliable sources to sections of this article which needed sources, and reworded many sentences for better reading. Maybe this was just on accident? If not, can you explain the reasoning behind this? Awsomaw (talk) 16:02, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Yes. I'm not sorry. Let me fix that. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:07, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Lots of links, but not much content. Can it be improved?

This page may appear as a gratuitous litany of associations with others. There is much less substance to it than I'd see in a well written article about a popular musician. 2601:640:8000:370:D80F:5E98:81FD:B865 (talk) 05:05, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
