Yang Shou-chungYang Shouzhong – In general, Cantonese names are an exception to WP:NCZH's policy to default to pinyin. However, in this case neither Cantonese spelling (Yeung Sau Chung or Yang Sau Chung) appears to be particularly widespread. Therefore, because the Wade-Giles Yang Shou-chung is not clearly more prevalent than the pinyin Yang Shouzhong, this page should be moved to the pinyin spelling. Agreed if the name is going to remain in Mandarin, then Hanyu Pinyin is preferred. In the US he is known mostly by his Cantonese name, mostly in non-standard spellings, but I recently edited the summary paragraph and the Transcription boxes include those for search and reference. I could have been mistaken about the usage of the Cantonese name. I only looked at published works, but if there are other sources you're seeing that use the Cantonese name, we should try to make a comparison. SilverStar54 (talk) 16:59, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this should prevent us from using the Mandarin name here. His courtesy name and his birth name were originally Mandarin. And as the article is written now, searches for his Cantonese name will also lead here. But if you want to do further research, note that because he moved to Hong Kong where he became known by the Cantonese version of his name, writers within the worldwide lineage he founded tend to use "Yeung Sau Chung", or a hybrid substituting the Mandarin "Yang" for "Yeung" to make his family heritage clear. Got it. Yeah, it sounds like the pinyin Mandarin name is the best option here. SilverStar54 (talk) 20:31, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
