Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

User:Britfilm

Patroller Usedtobecool thinks this individual would be a good fit for autopatrolled. Britfilm has 600 articles in the past year (~80 in the queue right now) and I am not seeing any deletion controversies. Articles are not massive but they're using proper sources and I don't see what NPRs can do except marking them reviewed. I have no comment on this and am just copying it over. –Novem Linguae (talk) 02:08, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Britfilm, is Henry C. James work in progress or are you done with it? Schwede66 19:14, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi there I was going to do more work on it, thank you! Britfilm (talk) 01:52, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Done. While Britfilm's articles can be a bit rough around the edges, they're not getting deleted, and those that get sent to draft are coming back. So as Usedtobecool says, in practice NPP is not really doing anything with them, and with their high volume of creations, there are definitely better uses of patroller time than continuing to manually review them. – Joe (talk) 09:44, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Rahammz

Reason for requesting autopatrolled rights Hello. I have been nominated for becoming a new page reviewer based on my edits. I believe based on my number of page creations and track record I fit the criteria for having my account becoming autopatrolled. Rahammz (talk) 13:44, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

@Rahammz, you already made request one time. Have patience. I have informed this matter at AN page. An admin will do the needful but since it's a huge backlog, admins can't watch all of our request at one day. ☮️Counter-Strike:Mention 269🕉️(🗨️✉️📔) 01:08, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Tapmani

I have created many clean pages without maintenance tags on them. This of course wasn't easy as I had to spend months learning how to create pages by visiting the Teahouse (a place without a sip of tea) to avoid embarrassing and suffocating the pages I create with maintenance tags overdose. Having this right will help improve this encyclopedia and lessen the work of those who review new articles. Tapmani (talk) 09:19, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

 Done – Joe (talk) 09:32, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Hemmers

Hi, Have created >50 articles (mostly BLP), which are clean and not burdened with maintenance tags. Main focus is filling in redlinks of medalists on articles such as 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships (World Champ medallists tick the box on WP:SPORTSPERSON, easy mode for notability and generally end up with plenty of independent coverage). I don't want to burden the backlog with uncontroversial articles. Admittedly my work does tend to be short and to the point. But clean, with good infoboxes and enough independent coverage to be uncontroversial. Thanks. Hemmers (talk) 17:22, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Done, there's absolutely nothing wrong with short and to the point! – Joe (talk) 09:33, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Nataev

Good day! I keep receiving notifications about pages that I created a while ago and started to wonder if I should seek autopatrolled rights to lessen the burden of NPP reviewers. I've been contributing to WMF projects since 2009. Here on enwiki, I've made over 9,000 edits and created over 90 pages. Of them, only four were deleted -- three were later re-created by me and kept, and one test template was deleted at my own request. I primarily write about Central Asia's culture, geography, and history. Some of my latest contributions include copy-editing and updating the entry on Queen's University at Kingston and turning a redirect page into a proper article about the highly important Andijan Reservoir. I already have autopatrolled rights on ruwiki, trwiki, and Commons and have had advanced rights on uzwiki since 2012. Admittedly, since I'm active on so many projects, my contributions tend to be short, but I have a solid grasp of notability guidelines. Nataev talk 19:39, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

In the meantime, I've created three more entries on fairly important subjects: Isfana River, Samat Sadykov Park, and Ay-Kul. Nataev talk 16:40, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Done Nice work; very clean articles across different topic areas. I appreciate that you set up redirects and link to Wikidata as well. I've pinged you a couple of times about minor things. In addition, there is an unreferenced section at Nabi Rahimov that needs your attention. Keep up the good work! Schwede66 19:09, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! Well noted on the minor issues and the Rahimov article. Nataev talk 19:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Academia45

When patrolling a page they've started, I noted its excellent quality, and in reviewing their contributions I note that this has been a consistent pattern. Klbrain (talk) 08:47, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback Klbrain! It is very kind of you. Academia45 (talk) 09:16, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
I've had a look at a selection of articles. They look well-sourced, well-formatted, well-written. However, Academia45 recently opened a dispute resolution request after another editor raised concerns around neutrality on Talk:Elihu Yale. The talk page is difficult to read, as it has formatting issues from both editors, and a dearth of signatures. Given that the Yale family is Academia's prime interest for new articles, I feel somewhat uncomfortable on a decision here before DR has provided clarity. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 18:55, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Done, I think the issues being discussed at the DR are far from the kind of bright-line problems that NPP can be expected to catch anyway. – Joe (talk) 09:35, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:MikeVitale

I have created numerous pages, mostly recently in the realm of women's hockey: both professional and WCHA-related. I've no interest in creating counter-factual content, and would love to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. MikeVitale 02:08, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has had 1 request for autopatrolled declined in the past 90 days ([1]). MusikBot talk 04:20, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
I think when Hey man im josh suggested to re-apply later, you should think in terms of at least six months to a year later, rather than a month. Your recent creations look good but I'm afraid that early run of deletions is going to preclude you from being autopatrolled for quite some time. Please understand that this isn't a comment on your current editing at all – we just have to be very cautious with this right.  Not done. – Joe (talk) 09:27, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you so much. However, if possible I would like to receive a trial for like three months because all my 12 articles are free of tags and on queue within past two months. To avoid any other deletion I build my articles slowly in my sandbox and publish an article probably every week. 6eeWikiUser (talk) 14:35, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
No, that's not how it works, sorry. – Joe (talk) 15:15, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Frzzl

Came across this user while patrolling, and am nicely impressed. With 43 articles created, Frzzl already has multiple GAs from their own creations. Among their last 38 page creations, only one has been a stub, and most are C-class. Frzzl's only deletion was their first ever page tagged as G2; in other words, no problems that I can tell. I feel confident in the creations so far. Utopes (talk / cont) 06:14, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Done, thanks. – Joe (talk) 09:36, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Knightoftheswords281

Saw this user while patrolling. Knightoftheswords has done a great job at building up articles on all sorts of current topics, from the humble beginnings up to generally B and C class articles across the board. They've created 29 so far with zero deletions... besides one that shows up in XTools, which was due to a now-blocked user moving Knight's draft on the Whatever (podcast) into mainspace against Knight's wishes, to which Knight can't be faulted for (as they confirmed this during the associated AfD). With all else being equal, I feel like their creations have all been solidly put together, even if it takes a few edits to get there, and they have a good understanding of writing articles and policy. Utopes (talk / cont) 06:45, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Done. They're really only a hair's breadth over an article creation rate where autopatrolled would make a difference (29 articles, but over two years), but it doesn't seem likely to do harm. Thanks for the suggestion. – Joe (talk) 09:37, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Otuọcha

I have written better articles in own way and lining to Wikipedia's policies. Haven read and reviewed and taken to heart Wikipedia:Autopatrolled, I will like to explore more features of getting my articles auto-patrolled. I have created nearly 30 clean articles. All the Best! Otuọcha (talk) 21:27, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Arjunaraoc

I am editing English wikipedia actively for the last two years after my past work on Telugu Wikipedia for 10+ years. Ocassionally I find the need to make same edit like adding or removing categories or adding or removing templates on a number of pages for maintenance purposes to improve the organisation and content of articles in my areas of interest. I have made a request for AWB help. Instead of depending on others, I would like to be able to make such edits myself. I made a request for bot flag for my bot account. It was declined with the suggestion to use AWB/JWB. I came to know that about 8 out of 31 pages I edited with my bot account were erroneous as the page title and the content were not consistent. I have made corrections required for the same already. Hence I request for registering my account for AWB/JWB usage. Arjunaraoc (talk) 09:19, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Arjunaraoc, ignoring the "bot" related aspect of your previous use - what have you learned about mass-editing that you will keep in mind if you are granted AWB access? Primefac (talk) 12:46, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
@Primefac, Based on my mass editing experience on Telugu wiki, here are few points I usually keep in mind. I will take care to identify the pages correctly which require mass editing. I will check the regular expressions on a trial basis for one or two pages, to ensure that the correction is as intended. I will be responsible for all edits done using AWB/JWB. After the use of AWB/JWB, I will check again on a sample basis that all the corrections are done properly. If there is any mistake, I will correct manually or with AWB/JWB, taking extra care. For edits which require consensus, I will only use the tool after the consensus is achieved. As I am a linux desktop user, I plan to use JWB after understanding the tool properly with experimentation on small number of pages initially. Let me know if you have any other question. I have actively contributed over 500+ edits, with 80% (450) being non-automated. I am seeking AutoWikiBrowser access to enhance grammar correction and article fixing tasks, aligning with my editing style and Wikipedia's guidelines. Adding champion in events templates to each years commonwealth games athletics results. Already done the mens events manually and AWB would make this much easier. Just to explain further this would be me adding {{Footer Commonwealth Champions 100 metres Women}} to Athletics at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – Women's 100 metres, Athletics at the 2018 Commonwealth Games – Women's 100 metres etc etc Brandon Downes (talk) 04:41, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

User:Isi96

I recently received an invitation to apply for this set of permissions, and I am happy to oblige. I have been editing extensively for the past few years, and in that time I have created many articles and handled feedback on them. I also have a fair amount experience with the AFD and CSD systems. I would be happy to help improve this project even further with the new page reviewer permissions. Isi96 (talk) 03:47, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Sorry for the long delay in processing your request, @Isi96:. I'm afraid I'm going to mark it as  Not done at this time. I can see that you have a lot of experience in mainspace editing, which is great, but are still quite new to maintenance tasks. I can only see participation in five AfDs and I can't find any recent CSD nominations (please consider using Wikipedia:Twinkle to keep a CSD log). For NPP we usually look for quite a bit more experience than that. You might give WP:AFC a try first – the work is similar but it has a lower barrier for entry. – Joe (talk) 08:42, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Given that the February Articles Needing References Drive has wrapped up and that I'm a sucker for drives, I'd be delighted to participate. I've been meaning to regularize my editing anyway, and it plays to my strengths! kencf0618 (talk) 12:19, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Done. Thank you for volunteering and sorry for the long wait. NPP doesn't currently have a backlog drive planned (the last was in January), but there's always plenty of work to do! – Joe (talk) 08:47, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) I oppose to grant this specific and advanced perm in unexperienced editor who do not demonstrate the deletion policy and they 1 times only participate in WP:AFD and not participate in WP:AFC; I don't think this user is eligible for this perm without any enough experience in this field. ~~ αvírαm|(tαlk) 13:41, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you @Aviram7, but the information you specified is typically something that an admin would come across in their review of the user prior to granting them the permission. Generally, non-admins are discouraged from commenting unless there's something one wishes to share that they would not expect the reviewing admin to notice. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:55, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
While ideally we would indeed like to see some prior experience in deletion or AfC, your substantial article writing experience also speaks to a good knowledge of policies relating to new articles.  Done for a one-month trial; please make a new request shortly before it expires, to make it permanent. – Joe (talk) 09:19, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for offering to help, Fdssdf, and sorry for the delay in handling this request. I can see that you are a very experienced editor, but for NPP we usually look for specific prior experience at AfD, AfC, and/or with article creation. And it doesn't look like you've been much involved in those areas. You might want to first try WP:AFC to get a feel for new article work, after which do feel free to make a new request. But  Not done for now, sorry. – Joe (talk) 08:59, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

I have been tagging and flagging new pages for a long time, but with a lot of infrequency. However, since I'm unable to mark a page as patrolled, I'm not able to help reduce the workload on the rest of the editors here. With this permission, whenever I'm looking into new pages, I'll be able to make more of a difference. Shashwat986talk 07:04, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

My edits are lower than the threshold of 500, but that is due to my work on New Pages. As a result of my work, I have over 1200 edits in User_talk pages (implying around 800 pages successfully deleted). If the 500 is still a hard-cutoff, I withdraw my request. Shashwat986talk 09:12, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
@Shashwat986: It's flexiblish, but explicitly doesn't include deleted edits – we're looking for people with experience improving articles as well as deleting them. I can see that you were quite active in new page and CSD patrolling in 2010–13, but since then you've been almost completely inactive. Welcome back! The CSD are basically the same as they were then, but the kind of new pages we see has changed quite a lot, as have community expectations on sourcing, notability, etc.
Based on your prior experience, I'd be willing to grant you the right despite not meeting the formal criteria (with the usual one-month trial period), but could you please first confirm that you've familiarised yourself with the current guidelines at WP:NPP? – Joe (talk) 18:03, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Hmm, though I have to say Moneyview gives me pause. Could you explain what prompted you to write that article and where you found the sources? – Joe (talk) 09:17, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for volunteering TheTankman. I can see that you've written a fair few articles, but we usually also look for some experience in assessing others' articles either through the deletion process (WP:CSD or WP:AfD) or WP:AfC. I'm not seeing that in your case, so I'm afraid it's  Not done for now. But please do consider getting involved in some of those areas and then reapplying. – Joe (talk) 09:06, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

With over 3 years and 6700+ edits I demonstrate the relevant areas that I am of a sufficient level of knowledge with the policies regarding page creation, deletion, citations and use of secondary reliable sources etc. Also Wikipedia's notability guidelines. I have a solid history that shows I am proficient with communicating and interacting with new users in a good, positive, civil, and appropriate manner. WikiHuman2021 (talk) 01:17, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for volunteering WikiHuman2021. I can see that you're an experienced editor, but it doesn't look like you've been involved in any of the maintenance areas we would usually look for to demonstrate familiarity with the policies and processes involved in new article work (WP:AFD, WP:AFC, article writing, etc.). I would recommend starting with one of those, to get a feel for it, then making a new request down the line, if you're still interested. But in terms of NPR,  Not done for now, sorry. – Joe (talk) 09:10, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

@Robertjamal12: Thank you for offering to help. I can see that you're an experienced editor, but I'm a bit concerned with how many of your own articles have been deleted, and also that your AfD record consists entirely of "keep" votes – mostly for articles that ended up getting deleted. On the basis I'm afraid I'll have to say  Not done for now. If you would like to try getting involved in WP:AFC and maybe spend more time at AfD to get a better feel for our inclusion guidelines, I would be happy to reconsider your request down the line. – Joe (talk) 09:16, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

User:Waylon111

Here's the criteria I have for being a Pending Changes Reviewer:

1. I have a account 3 years old (although I have started picking up editing beginning November 2023)

2. I think I have a good editing history, and a good track record.

3. I understand what's vandalism and what isn't (accidentally misspelling a word during your edit is in good faith, but doing things like changing the date of a movie from 2024 to 1956 is vandalism)

4. I know the basic policies, WP:BLP, WP:V, WP:!, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV.

5. I know that you cannot violate the Copyright policy. (WP:C)

6.I understand the guidelines on reviewing.

But, you may ask, why do I want this permission? My answer is, to help people out on Wikipedia. If someone makes a edit that might not be correct, I could correct them on their edit. And I would like to use this tool to help "implode vandals", as the cool kids say. :) Waylon (he was here) (Does my editing suck? Let's talk.) (Also, not to brag, but...) 03:27, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

5. I am aware of WP:CV

6. I am very active on Wikipedia.

1. Iwould say I have a track record of good edits on Wikipedia.

2. Along with that, I am extended-confirmed, with my account dating back to fall of 2020 and 3,708 edits as of this post.

3. Vandalism is something I see quite often throughout my time on Wikipedia, especially with new articles, but even on old ones where people do not usually go or think to check. I have dealt with what I can of these edits.

4. Throughout my time on here, I have become familiar with the basic content policies, including neutral point of view, no original research, verifiability and what Wikipedia is not.

5. I'm familiar with copyright on WP.

6. I have gone through and read the guidelines on reviewing.

Hi, I'm requesting permissions to Review Pending Changes for a few reasons, and hope ya'll will consider me. First, I've made 600+ Edits, including many of signifigance to multiple pages on various different Social/Historical topics. Second, I've extremely rarely ever had my edits reverted and that's been due to someone feeling my citation was not the best, but I've not had any major compliants. Third, I vote in the Picture of the Year & Arbitration Committee Election, and I'm familiar with WP Guidelines and Copyright. And I just enjoy getting to help have accurate and up to date information on Wikipedia, considering how many folks use this for information. And I'd be more than willing to take on the responsiblity of helping to ensure that continues and is done well. I thank whoever is taking the time to read this and hope to hear back, and thank you for the work that you do as well. Sunnyboi18 (talk) 02:57, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

I am disinclined to grant this; it was suggested to you that you should have this permission but I don't really see any evidence of you needing it. While you have made more than the indicated two TPERs (I count 5-6), they are simple/trivial updates and thus I have not added them into the guideline count. In other words: are you simply making this request because someone said you should, or do you think you actually need this permission? Primefac (talk) 13:30, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
