Latvia's flag has two versions, a physical and a digital version (See Flag of Latvia#Colours and proportions). Could we get a value to display the physical version, since the default is the digital one? Or make the physical one the default with the digital being a variation? — IмSтevan talk 17:46, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Completed – the fabric flag is now the default. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 02:12, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Paine Ellsworth: Can we get the File:Flag_of_Latvia_(physical).svg in the code for the default version, and File:Flag of Latvia.svg for the digital one, so no matter how the files change, the proper flags are displayed? — IмSтevan talk 23:37, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- To editor ImStevan: well, according to the Commons' deletion log the c:File:Flag of Latvia (physical).svg was deleted earlier this morning by editor billinghurst, who also reverted the digital version from this country data template. We need to get our heads together on all this before any more edits are made. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 06:28, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, (physical) should redirect to File:Flag of Latvia.svg, whilst (digital) should be a stand-alone file. What I proposed was a way to make the coding change proof - (digital) would always either be the file or point towards a digital version of the file and (physical) would always itself be the file or point towards the textile one. Currently, the textile flag version is on the File:Flag of Latvia.svg, and it should remain as such — IмSтevan talk 06:32, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Paine Ellsworth: it was the contributor who labelled the flag as duplicate. @ImStevan: Changing flags is a contentious issue, and one that should always be done through consultation and consensus prior to local changes. One of areas where I see explosive conversations. These files are widely used, and even when templated, highly problematic to change. — billinghurst sDrewth 07:13, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Paine Ellsworth and Billinghurst: Both the description and the en:Flag of Latvia articles support my claims. To harmonize all flag files, all of the Flag of X.svg files display are the default ones, and Latvia should be no exception. I didn't see a reason to start a discussion when even the description of the file itself states that the version I uploaded is the correct one. I see no issue in re-adding the digital version as it stands right now, since the digital flag is not contentious — IмSтevan talk 07:22, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- To editor billinghurst: I understand why the (physical) was reverted – I wonder why the digital flag cannot remain as a variant in this country data template? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 02:29, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- It is the same file <shrug>. I simply returned to the status quo. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:21, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

- To editor billinghurst: in case you cannot see much difference between the flags:
- I can attest that there is a significant darker color in the former, the fabric flag, which looks more purple to me, while the latter, the digital flag, seems to be redder, although not bright red. I've placed these digitals before (as flag variants) when there was this much difference between the fabric flag and the digital flag. Would you be okay with adding back the digital as a flag variant? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 19:22, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- It is entirely possible that the user has some sort of color blindness. I second this, the actual flag is much darker than the digital one. I even made a file that shows the difference @Billinghurst: – — Preceding unsigned comment added by ImStevan (talk • contribs) 00:41, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Comment: @Paine Ellsworth: Since there is no consensus on using physical flags as the default, can the value be changed from "digital" to "pantone" and the file to File:Flag_of_Latvia_(Textile).svg? — IмSтevan talk 14:41, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, since CommonsDelinker bot did its thing, the flags have been the exact same. It makes more sense for the flags to be a bit different. The textile flag is noticably darker than the default flag. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 16:48, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
