Requested edit

[edit]

Hello, could an admin please edit the template to update it to the version in Template:Intro_to/sandbox. This change adds a link to the sand box on the final page of each set. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 06:21, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Requested edit

[edit]

Hello again, I've made a set of suggested changes in the template's sandbox. The changes are:

  • Update final link on the final summary page of a series (e.g. this) to point the reader back to the main menu.
  • The option for example exercises to be included at the bottom of pages (e.g. this). Hidden if no example is provided.

I believe that these are both uncontroversial edits, but happy for suggestions. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 12:16, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 Done, since this looks useful and unlikely to be controversial. I cleaned up the HTML to be consistent and not weird, though.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  05:24, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 11 May 2018

[edit]

Sorry this is not in "change X to Y" format. This template frequently generates stripped </div> lint errors, including in the following:

There are 7 <div> and 7 </div> in this template, so it's not immediately obvious what the problem is, but there is a problem. If you don't know how to fix it, kindly leave this as answered=no for a couple of days, because someone else might know how to fix it. —— Anomalocaris (talk) 03:45, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking the balancing of brackets and tags, it looks like the
}}
}}</div><br /><br />
near the bottom ought to be
}}</div>
}}<br /><br />
But I see no way of checking other than trying it in live, which isn't anybody's first choice. I'll let it sit in the hope someone may know a better way. Otherwise I'll come back and try it shortly. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 09:43, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. I can't see any adverse effects and, after a couple of purges, each of the four pages listed above has lost their "stripped" errors on their Page Information. Cabayi (talk) 12:49, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest changing "learnt" to "learned" in the line below. --PhotographerTom (talk) 19:45, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

" Test what you've learnt in the sandbox"
I've refactored this to make it an edit request. Per below, this is an ENGVAR matter, but (a) the tutorial mostly uses American English at this point, and (b) usage of "learned" is increasing even in the UK — Grammarly writes that "Soon learned might be the most common form everywhere." Change {{Clickable button 2 |Draft:Sandbox |Test what you've learnt in the sandbox |class=mw-ui-progressive}}

to {{Clickable button 2 |Draft:Sandbox |Test what you've learnt in the sandbox}}

This implements PhotographerTom's request from above, and corrects the class of the button from progressive to neutral, which is more appropriate, as editors going through the tutorial aren't required to experiment in the sandbox. Sdkb (talk) 09:04, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Sdkb:  Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. "Learnt" vs "Learned" is an WP:ENGVAR issue (the latter is generally only used in North America). --Ahecht (TALK

) 18:11, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ahecht: I didn't know about the ENGVAR aspect, so I'm going to separate that request from the button color one and re-open this asking just for the button color change. Regarding consensus, this is a largely abandoned area, so you're not going to see a lot of comments from other users, and I think it's reasonable to ask that we go by BRD; this isn't going to break anything technical (which is presumably why this template was protected, not because of widespread usage). Please implement this change from the sandbox, which introduces two parameters, nextlink and nexttext, which together can be used to customize the blue progression button so that it leads to the next module rather than back to the main tutorial list page. Please implement the sandbox version at Template:Intro to/sandbox/styles.css, which introduces a shadow the same as appears at Wikipedia:Contact us (and is also appearing live in the tutorials currently, since {{Intro to}} accidentally uses the sandbox stylesheet). {{u|Sdkb}}talk 18:02, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update: JJMC89 just fixed the using the sandbox stylesheet issue, so the shadow is no longer displaying on the {{Intro to}} pages, only the {{Intro to single}} pages. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 01:10, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 25 January 2022

[edit]

Explanation: this request began as an edit to {{Intro to}}, then changed to an edit to {{Intro to tabs}}. The solution seems to lie in renaming Wikipedia:Contact us (fully protected) to Wikipedia:Contact us/1 as I've suggested at the outdent below. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 01:32, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The first section should not have a /1 on it as it wont be in bold like the /2,/3

See Wikipedia:Contact us for an example of how it fails. TemplateSyntax (talk) 05:31, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done @TemplateSyntax: it is not clear what edit you want processed, please update Template:Intro to/sandbox, validate the change, then reactivate the edit request. If you want to just discuss this further in that someone else might do this, feel free to continue below. — xaosflux Talk 11:43, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
 Comment: Which template is this actually about? The edit protected request lists {{Intro to tabs}}, which isn't protected at all (and never has been), and {{Intro to}} is TE protected, so it seems the current semi request is wrong in some way -- Asartea Talk | Contribs 09:35, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the /{{#expr:{{SUBPAGENAME}}+1}}}} so that the first section title will appear bolded like the others do. See the page I linked? Introduction isn't bolded but, click readers and it is. TemplateSyntax (talk) 18:32, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

At Wikipedia:Contact us, the word "Introduction" in the left sidebar appears in bold. I am using the "Legacy" Vector skin. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:04, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:Jonesey95. I said bold, i should have used the word highlighted. I dont mean the font itself, but how it looks relative to the other headings when selected.

Oh, I think I managed to replicate the issue. At pages like Help:Introduction to policies and guidelines/1, the first item on the menu has a gray background, showing that it's the current page. However, at WP:Contact us, the introduction link at the left doesn't have that, because the URL in the menu is WP:Contact us/1, a redirect back to WP:Contact us. It'd be nice if that were fixed, but I don't see it as crucial, and I haven't checked if it'd mess with other pages like the first one. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 21:06, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So would you suggest switching the content page and redirect page?. I use mediawiki but not WMF, so I don't want to break anything on yall's project. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TemplateSyntax (talkcontribs) 06:19, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest this issue can be fixed with this edit to Template:Intro to tabs, i.e. if the number parameter is left blank then the root page should be used instead of a subpage of /1. I'll ping Evolution and evolvability who wrote this template for their opinion. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:56, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. You're right that I'd developed the template set to work with numbered subpages for simplicity (e.g. so that it can spot the next expected in the series). I think you're correct that that suggested edit should work. I've implemented it to the main Template:Intro_to_tabs. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 04:46, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so having looked into it a bit more it is mainly a problem when there is no subpage, so the two optoins are:
  1. Move Wikipedia:Contact_us to Wikipedia:Contact_us/Introduction and edit |number=1 |number=Introduction in Wikipedia:Contact_us/tabs
  2. Move all subpages in Wikipedia:Contact_us to be numbered (example)
I don't have edit/move privileges for those pages so someone else will need to do so. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 05:03, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This has been sort of sandboxed at the redirect, Wikipedia:Contact us/1. It appears that the fully-protected page, Wikipedia:Contact us, should be renamed to "Wikipedia:Contact us/1", and if the "/1" is not desired in the title, just use <span style="font-size:0">/1</span> in the DISPLAYTITLE as I've done at (what was) the redirect. Or, just leave it like it is and it will work as it should if WP:Contact us is redirected to WP:Contact us/1. Might still need protection, but I'll leave it up to the admins.

I think I have fixed the issue without having to move any pages. Can someone please confirm this is working? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:19, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To editor Martin: to confirm your fix just click on "Contact us" in the left margin on any Wikipedia page. And yes, you fixed it. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 15:08, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
