FormattingError and nocategory

[edit]

Can we please have a |nocategory={{{nocategory|}}} switch that is passed to {{FormattingError}}? A lot of pages are showing up on Category:Pages_with_incorrect_formatting_templates_use that are really just documentation that explicitly triggers this errors and therefore not incorrect pages. Having an option to mark them as not incorrect makes keeping track of incorrect formatting template use easier. A good example is {{val}} that already does this.

Protecting pages is nice, but if that means functional changes are no longer possible, it is not. Can somebody grant me access or make the above change?     SkyLined (talk) 13:47, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bug

[edit]

If the string contains a <ref>reference</ref> it does not return the correct char which is resulting in errors on a number of string templates. Even if this bug is not fixed anyone know how I can trip a reference from the input string? --ben_b (talk) 09:44, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

#

[edit]

Seems like # should work, but I get an error:

I can't quite see why this isn't working based on Template:Str index/logic (after all, it has the # character functionality), especially since {{str index|ff#0000|3}} works (sort of—it has newline problems and requires special handling, but it does properly find the hash character). However, one of {{str index any}} or {{chr}} should do the trick for you, e.g.:
  • {{str index any|#ff0000|1}}Str_index/getchar - Unknown code "*
  • {{chr|#ff0000|1}}

faster way to do this

[edit]

like I did it in the German Wikipedia, you should first check the str ≥ len, and only run the str index/logic if necessary. Also, if number is 1, Str left does the same faster. --androl (talk) 22:34, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
