"Category"-class and "list"-class

[edit]

Some other templates have a List-class (see Category:List-Class_articles), others have a Category-class (see Category:Category-Class_articles). In the cycling project, we don't have them. I would like to have them. All Category-class articles now are rated NA, and list-class articles are 'lost' in the rating process. I looked in the template itself, but it looks really difficult, so I'm afraid to mess something up... --EdgeNavidad (talk) 07:19, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't see this before. It's not too hard to do, will look at this later. SeveroTC 15:57, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Switch to meta template with greater support for the requested class categories. SeveroTC 08:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done:. The proposed changes would break the template pretty hard. Suggest first doing some sandbox testing to get proper parameter names fixed up. Cheers. lifebaka++ 13:26, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{editprotect}} I'm slightly confused as to how this would "break the template pretty hard". It completely replaces it with the meta template. I wasn't actually completely explicit in what I wanted changed - basically replace the whole code with all the following code. I have tested this and haven't found anything untoward. If you have noticed anything, place be explicit. We can do without all the fields at the bottom though.

Future Class

[edit]

{{editprotect}}

Same deal. I'm trying to create Category:Future-Class Cycling articles. There are more than 50 subcategories to Category:Future-Class articles, and I really think a cycling subcat is a fitting one. But I can't get articles to get into the category through the use of this template, so I think an edit is necessary. I'm not sure what that edit is, though, so hopefully someone can help me. Nosleep break my slumber 06:03, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mountain Biking task force support

[edit]

{{editprotect}} I propose adding the following the cycling template. I added the |tf group on, which provides support for the Mountain Biking task force within the Cycling Project. This will allow that task force to group and categorize its articles within Cycling. See the Cardiology task force's use of WP:MED's template for an example of how this will work. The parent wikiproject's banner (Cycling) will not change, except that for mountain biking articles there will be an additional line of text stating that it is supported by the mtn. biking task force. The extra lines below allow the mountain biking task force to use the same bot Cycling does to group articles based on quality and importance.

Andyo2000 (talk) 18:03, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved your code to the sandbox version. The syntax is fine. Are you sure you want to use the MAIN_CAT as well as the separate quality/importance categories? This version might help you to create all the necessary categories. Struck because I realise that you have the categories, so I have fixed your code to use an assessment category of "Mountain Biking articles" rather than "mountain biking articles" — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:48, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, I might suggest that a parameter of "mtnbk" might be hard to remember. What about "mountain"? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:51, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As you didn't reply I used my initiative. The parameter is mtb - let me know if you want this changed. The {{WPMB}} is now using this template, so you can continue to use that one as a shortcut. (But the needs-photo note will no longer work because this one doesn't have such a note.) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks pretty good, and yes, the mtb parameter is fine. Thank you. Andyo2000 (talk) 13:54, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to add importance assessment

[edit]

{{editprotect}}

As we're one of the only Projects that doesn't have one. As suggested here, the edit seems to be

|QUALITY_SCALE         = extended
|class=

to

|QUALITY_SCALE         = extended
|class=
|importance=

Hopefully it can be figured out what needs to be done. Alex finds herself awake at night (Talk · What keeps her up) 08:57, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trial and error on widely-used templates is not a good idea. Try reading the documentation at {{WPBannerMeta}} to figure out how to add importance support, then update and test the sandbox accordingly. Once you're sure the sandbox works as intended, then we can change the template.  Skomorokh, barbarian  15:41, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea how to read the absolute schlock of code in this template. None. Thanks anyway. Alex finds herself awake at night (Talk · What keeps her up) 07:09, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request

Per this request at WP:VPT. I'm unsure how to code this to allow the parameters to become live. Any help would be grateful. The Cricket Project's template might help with the syntax - {{WikiProject Cricket}}. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 20:04, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

BaldBoris 19:11, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@BaldBoris: Several things, |tf 1= already is hooked, so you're requesting |tf 2=. Are you certain that you want quality and importance assessments separate from the project-wide |importance= and |class=? Unless you forsee your task force needing a secondary assessment separate from the WikiProject, you don't need importance/assessment cats. If you would like all pages tagged with |tdf=yes to be categorized into one category, you need a |TF_2_MAIN_CAT=. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 19:22, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If Wikipedia:WikiProject Cycling/Mountain Biking task force is using it, why wouldn't this? BaldBoris 19:32, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@BaldBoris: Basically, you're requesting something similar to the subcategories of Category:Mountain Biking articles by importance and Category:Mountain Biking articles by quality, but for your own taskforce. Just wanted to verify if that's what you intend, rather than one main go-to category. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 19:35, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes of course I understand? One category won't suffice. BaldBoris 19:40, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done Re-open if there are any issues — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 20:17, 5 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Andy M. Wang: Why have all of the articles gone in Category:Unknown-importance Tour de France articles? I only intend to use |tdf-imp= if any are low for WikiProject Cycling, but aren't for the Tour. BaldBoris 19:54, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@BaldBoris: If |tdf-imp= is unspecified, it defaults to the unknown-importance Tour de France category. But if you prefer your task force to go off of the existing WikiProject-wide impotance categorization be default, and only occasionally let |tdf-imp= override it, the current sandbox edit is probably what you're requesting. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 20:11, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Andy M. Wang: Yes, that's much better. Thanks. BaldBoris 20:44, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Might take a day to repopulate. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 20:47, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Andy M. Wang: To get article alerts and recognized content working I think all articles also need to be in Category:Tour de France task force articles, for example Category:American Civil War task force articles. Looking at Wikipedia:Article alerts/Subscription list, all task forces using article alerts have all in the main articles cat, same with Category:Wikipedia lists of recognized content. It doesn't look like there's ever been an update in the mountain biking alerts either. Also, can you make it so there's Category:Tour de France articles needing attention (using |attention=), Category:Tour de France articles needing infoboxes (using |needs-infobox=) and Category:Tour de France articles needing photographs like Category:Mountain Biking task force articles. I'm not sure if it's actually working for the latter because all three are empty. {{WikiProject Military history}} uses it for the American Civil War task force, see Talk:1st California Mountaineers Battalion. Thanks. BaldBoris 07:18, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Milhist is a poor example to compare against because it is so very different from other WikiProject banners; not only does it not use {{WPBannerMeta}}, its parameters, categories and categorisation rules all differ too. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:39, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Redrose64: OK my bad, but surely you know I could of used other examples? The first request is done on almost every task force articles cat I've seen, 1, 2, 3. The second is already used in this for the Mountain Biking task force, so I didn't even need to give an example. Here's one that uses {{WPBannerMeta}} anyway: {{WikiProject United States}} for Category:Yellowstone task force articles. I forgot that Category:Tour de France articles needing photographs can't be done because it's done through {{Photo requested|cycling people}}, so Category:Mountain Biking articles needing photographs isn't a comparison.
