{{Editprotected}} Can the template have some text as guidance on whether class should be inputted as "B" or "B-Class" etc, so that editors do not need to dig into the template to check how to assign a rating?

At the very least, can we have an image that doesn't misspell the word "Vinyl" in its title? That's just embarassing. Either of these images would be fine, though a photograph would still be preferable, even though this image is not that great. --lincalinca 12:27, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In passing, might I make the comment that you'd get more people assessing the Class of an article if it was displayed in the template - if it's not visible, people assume that Class isn't supported. As a second suggestion, might I point out Template:WPBannerMeta, which is a template for creating banner templates, thus allowing normal people to set them up without worrying about minor screwups like some of the above? Once you've converted to that template, then adding things like List and Cat would be a question of just adding "yes" to the appropriate line of the template. Checking article against B-class status

[edit]

The {{WikiProject Film}} template has an interesting Quality Scale that uses subpages, where articles can be checked against B-class status criteria. Should WP Songs have a similar option? I actually spent quite some time copying the Film template code into the Song template code on my sandbox and, well, let's face it, I just can't do code. It's best left to the pros. (It was the "Hook Assess" parameters that I kept tripping on, and I couldn't follow the meta template documentation.) Is there any reason to not have it? I kind of dig the checklist style, and it would help get some people involved in certain articles into knowing exactly what needs to be focused on. –Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 20:46, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Vynil record.jpg and File:2 vinyl records + 1 CD.jpg were deleted as copyright violations. The image will eventually disappear from the caché. Maybe I'm not the best to give an opinion because I was never wild about the original image, and I'm happy to see it go. But I'm also not wild about the new suggestions, which are basically the same thing. I would prefer something far simpler: like a single vinyl record. Why must there be 18 of them scattered about helter skelter? The first option is also underexposed. The colorful picture is... colorful, but as a thumbnail, it looks more like a 70s tablecloth pattern. Not wild about the CD cases either, which has a glare to it. When I have more time tonight, maybe I'll look for a suggestion, but my question to anyone would be something like this: What would you use as a logo for your record store? Something easy to see, something simple, something recognizable. Or maybe I'm taking this way too seriously, it's just a talk page tag anyway. :) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 22:40, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Turntable is good for Albums. For songs, I'd like to see something like a vinyl single superimposed over printed music. 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 15:32, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
i like the turntable for albums! before i found this discussion, i went ahead and took a few photos of my own records and cds to match the old image (nb i'm not referring to the other contents of this directory), but i agree that the svg is superior. as far as songs go, i mocked up something like what 78.26 suggested. the sheet musics are two images from commons in the public domain. the record is a mockup of a They Might Be Giants EP; i'm on good terms with the graphic designer for the labels so i could probably get his permission to use the artwork at this resolution or a higher one (the band has previously been generous about using high-resolution images related to them). although, if that's inappropriate, i could just replace the label image with an ambiguous stock label from a major label. uh, if people like the idea, that is. ~ Boomur [talk] 20:31, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I also like the turntable but thought the album, EP, and CD image was a good representative of the range of formats that albums appear in so support your image Boomur - I suppose an image with these and a 78rpm disc, 8-track, cassette and ipod would account for all past and present formats but maybe thats a bit OTT DISEman (talk) 08:21, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Albums has changed their image with consensus at their project talk page. Maybe the turntable should be used in Songs. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 17:52, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

i'm not sure about the turntable for songs, especially because the record on the platter appears to be a 12" (most commonly associated with LPs, especially in vinyl's heyday). on that note i'd also like to take this time to point out that i made another thingy, this time with a more wikipedia-type theme (though i need to clean it up considerably...at some point). it parodies old elektra labels like this one. pretty sure it's too simple to qualify as copyright vio, consisting entirely of part of a circle and some simple text. ~ Boomur [talk] 00:39, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
too bad the amusing text won't show up in the banner. 78.26 (I'm no IP, talk to me!) 02:39, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I like this. If it could be in an SVG format it could be better (for its text). Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 22:34, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This has been going on for way too long. I'd be bold and just use that image (vinyl over music notes) and then let anyone who wishes to complain to step forward at that time. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 23:01, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
i was about to upload the file, but i just want to make sure i'm using the right copyright info. it's a derivative of public domain works, so could i use {{PD-because}} with the description it is a derivative work from other works in the public domain, or is there something more specific i could use? sorry, i'm not really familiar with uploads that are anything other than fair use! ~ Boomur [talk] 01:19, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If the files were obtained from Wikipedia/Commons you can add the files to its description, like this, or if they are external images (but copyfree), you can cite where they were obtained. You can release the final work under a CC license or PD, like I did with this retouched file, where I remember I was asked if I release the simple changes under PD or CC. Tbhotch. Requesting addition of B-class checklist to this template. like so:

|b2=
|b3=
|b4=
|b5=
|b6=

--Atlantima ~~ (talk) 22:02, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: There doesn't appear to be a |B_CHECKLIST= parameter - is it documented anywhere? Anyway, what I did was this, mostly borrowed from {{WikiProject Albums}}. I gave each criterion the alias |B-Class-1= etc. so that the two could be consistent. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:50, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This change created an error. Now every B-class song is assessed as C, excepting The Beatles songs, which are merged in their own template. This should be reverted or fixed before 750 songs become 50. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 00:49, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's essentially how the WP:BCLASS checklist works - to be rated B-class, an article must score "yes" on all six parameters, otherwise the highest that it can have is C-class. See Template:WPBannerMeta#Assessment and Template:WPBannerMeta/hooks/bchecklist. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:54, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, according to you, I have to spend many years of my life to check if the articles are B or C? Let me inform you nobody exceptvery few people, including me, assess and/or re-assess these articles. And I am not going to waste years because somebody arbitrarily decided to add that ranking without consensus. Which is the next step, add priority rankings? What a total waste of time.
