Women in India report on menopause in a similar way as women in Japan. In a study done in Chandigarh, India, it was found that 17.1% of women experienced hot flashes. The study also found that 94% of women were happy about experiencing menopause and hormone replacement therapy was not used.[1] Statistically, the women of Chandigarh do not view menopause in a negative light as compared to other cultures. Another study done in various urban settings of India found that only 34% of women experienced vasomotor symptoms following menopause. Hot flashes were most prevalent in women that were more unhealthy and did not have positive thoughts regarding menopause.[2] Overall, women in India have a similar feeling towards this stage in their life as women in Japan, but differ from women in the United States.
