GoNintendo is a Nintendo gaming news information, bloging, and weekly podcasting site. Gonintendo covers the latest Nintendo console news on the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii. Gonintendo was founded in August 2005 by Kevin Cassidy. He is known as RawmeatCowboy on the website.[1]

History

[edit]

The main site originally started with nintndonow.blogspot.com. The site eventually grew thanks the the popularity of the podcast and soon gonintendo.com was created. The original blog started on July 30, 2005, at exactly 9:23 PM. The blog's creator, RawmeatCowboy, intended that the site would be "the number one Nintendo blog FOR and BY Nintendo fans everywhere." [2]

Eventually the blog got a new home on October 16, 2005, www.gonintendo.com. However on April 12th, 2007 the site had crashed, making the site lose about a weeks worth of posts. The boards were hit even harder though, losing 8 months. The main site is a host of various stories. [3]

Messageboards

[edit]

The GoNintendo MessageBoards were created by site founder, RawmeatCowboy, on October 5, 2005, and officially made public at 12m EST on October 16, 2005. It currently serves over 2000 members.

In light of his maintenance and other duties on the main site alongside Rawmeat, Cortjezter was made Administrator of the boards, and quickly set out in secrecy to develop a custom visual solution instead of foisting the default subSilver theme upon users that many other sites use.

The custom theme for phpBB was designed and created entirely by Cortjezter, and publicly unveiled in the first week of March 2006. This theme, along with several other functional enhancements, was captured in the above picture on October 30, 2006 by JasonWin and remains the primary theme of the board.

Future plans for the boards include an upgraded system following the public release of phpBB v3.0 expected sometime during 2007. A private GoNintendo beta site is being run and tested readying that version. Many new features and enhancements will be available. [4]

The GoNintendo IRC Room is a chat room for the signed up users of Gonintendo and it is free to all. It was origionally created by fan DevilsRejection. It's evolvedalot since it's early years and used to be moderated by users Ku and Big_J. Unfortunately Ku and Big_J left the chatroom later on because of the lack of time. The chatroom was moderated by Kuraitenshinkun, Uzukinaruto, Ragnarok, Bethany and Catchphrase for a few months. Ku returned to to the IRC as the channel owner and co-owner along side Catchphrase.

But the first GoNintendo chat room was a java based that never got used. As soon as the IRC room was started it was a hit. It has continued to grow and become one of the most popular features on the site. [8]
